I'd stay away from the FX loop. You'll notice a drop in signal when you plug into it. I didn't like the Holy Grail becuase it is not true bypass and also created a signal loss. The reverb was lush.
The Soulmate is awesome, my friend has one with his Ghia (it's here at my house so I get to play with it.)
I ended up getting an EBS Dynoverb. Sweet Reverb. True Bypass, acutally is DSP and has Room, Plate and Hall. If you dig a good room verb for blues, this is a great pedal.

I have to agree with Paul on the Holy grail, it is has great reverb but it colors the tone of the amp even when it's off. I suppose you could use a true bypass loop or something but the tone will still be affected when it's switched in. You would have to try it to see if the tone when on was to your liking or not.
The only other pedal I have tried is an original issue of the first Boss Digital Reverb/Delay (can't remember the model #), this isn't bad for verb but it doesn't have a spring selection and it too colors the sound of the amp not as much as the EH, but a little bit.
I prefer the on board verb the Z gives me but many have said that the non-verb and verb models of the amps are voiced slightly different, so you might need to try a couple of amps and a couple of pedals too.
Good Luck in you r quest!
