After a lengthy and probably way too obsessive search for the "perfect" Dr Z amp for me, I got a Maz Sr 1X12 reverb. My other amps are 6L6's but I found the different flavor of the EL84's very cool. This amp "cuts" and projects it's sound through the mix playing live, an attribute that many amps lack. Thank you Doc for making such a excellent tool for this gigging fool.

I don't know if it was my late '90s ownership of a Mesa DC-3 or my later Budda Superdrive 30, but I've become an enormous fan of the EL84... Most of it is the tone after using the old Mesa hybrid EL34/6L6 setup in a Mark III and EL34s exclusively in a Rivera R-55, but at the risk of being shallow, some of it comes down to the ease and relative lack of expense for retubing. I run a big ol' fan right down on top of my Maz 38 Studio Lead head to keep those tubes as cool as I can, but even if I had to retube every 3 months I'd still get off a little better than a couple sets of the big bottles and the rebias every year...

Hey, how do you get any sleep with a new Maz in the house? I can't stop playing through this thing, it sounds so good. I'm already thinking about getting another Dr. Z amp. Thanks again to the good doctor for making such a great product

I've had my Maz Sr for a month now and I'm still discovering all the sounds it's capable of. I have the 1X12 combo and I love it but in retrospect getting a head and using different cabs is probably the way to go.

More consensus here! I've owned a Maz 18 JR 2x10 since 2001 and aside from some headroom issues, it is the greatest amp I've ever owned... that is until I got the big boy (blond Maz 38 Sr 1x12)!!! The Senior is an amazingly versatile amp for rock, blues, funk and country and it is at the perfect power level for the clubs I play, especially considering how well the Master Volume works. If I need to tame it down even more, I just plug into the low input. I've agonized for the last couple years over which model would be my second Z-amp - (just ask Madison!!!) but after considering everything from the Rt66 to the Mazerati, I finally decided that I loved the Junior, but I just needed more CLEAN headroom.
I also decided to try the 1x12 config in the Senior, since I already had the 2x10's in my Junior and that has made all the difference. Don't get me wrong, I like those punchy 10's, but once I cranked that Senior with a 12" V30 in it, I was hooked. I would love to hear this amp through a 4x12 cab sometime. SUPERCHUNK!

I'll jump in too. The Maz 38 Sr was my first leap of faith sight and sound unheard, just orderd it based on what everyone on the forum here had to say about it. I did manage to demo a Maz 18 before placing my order so I had somewhat of a clue and it turned out to be one of the best gear decisions I have ever made ;D. Problem is it didn't stop there, I had to buy another Z amp and my guess is it aint' gonna stop anytime soon.
