I'm looking for the best Dr. z 1X12 combo, is it the maz 38sr. or is it the ghia, z-28, or the maz 18jr. I realize its a bit of personal preference, but i want to know what other peoples favorites are.

It really depends on the sound you are looking for. What type of music do you play?

...best???....howz about the one that fits your needs the best....i've had a Maz18 a z-28 several Ghias a Rt 66 and a Maz 38.....all fabulous amps...i still have the Maz 38 which i i've used for about a year am keeping indefinitely and heres why...it has a big piano like clean tone which is a sound i like to have available...i'm definitely an el-84 fan cause i love the inherent crunch and chime they provide...it can cover pretty much all the tones i'd been getting from other Z's including the Ghia though the Ghias tone is the hardest to capture at similar volume levels....in short it has max versatility and the power level i need for some good loud cleans without too much tweaking.....oh but i do love those two and three knob amps and i may end up with another Ghia or Z-28 at some point.....

I played through many of the Dr's amps and I picked the Maz Sr reverb 1x12. It was my first Z and it seemed the most versatile. Like paddywacker, I like that big clean sound it can get as well as crunchy stuff. If you play in small venues the Maz 18 jr would be worthy of your consideration too.
