Wanted to share experience with the Sr and a new 212 pine open back cab loaded with Jensen Neodymiums. Last few months I have used 212 birch ply open back with Tonker/Swamp Thang. The Neos were just as loud and revealed much more detail in the low end making the other cab sound lower quality. Playing alder Tele with Callaham nickel modern bridge w mini hum in neck was rich, warm, tonefull, well damped bottom, violin textured and less colored across the entire frequency range. Alder Tele w vintage bridge with SCN neck and PFlorance Voodoo bridge delivering a deeper growling mids, Plexiish upper mid (hollowish, lots of overtones), yet still generating classic twang. The whole package.
Real light weight ash Strats with Fralins and 57/62's sounded more distinctive from each other, Fralins loving 1-3-5 positions (killin Rita Chiarelli's Change For You with Knoppfleresque/Kief cudos) and 57/62 killing the 2-4 jangle in lush, saggy Little Wing. That may be expected but the Neos give you more differentiated sounds unlike the Eminences that made different Strats sound more alike. Also played EBall Axis SS with Phat Cats (yes you read that right) through Bad Bob class A boost and rockin and crying SRV Let me Love You Baby drew huge ovation. The Plexi edge of the amp with rich woody tone worked amazing with Phat Cats P90 edge + Fender quack. Yeah baby, the whole blend of sounds was there and the Emins in the past did not create that vibe. Slide on a Supro strung with 16-54's growled with more steely edge and string definition rather than Emins lows mushier and top end too British crunchy. Given the range of Blues sounds we play the Sr and Neos combine time honored hand building with technology for amazing results. For the "purity of yesterday" fanatics this may sound silly but man the Sr and those Neos can let you do way more of YOUR OWN thing plus let you emulate the gold standard signature sounds of Buddy W, Paisley, etc. etc. The tone of the Sr was very signature Dr. Z however with amp running full throttle. Worth every penny. Now, when are we getting an 80 watt fire breathing monster version for more clean headroom?
