Hey folks,
Had the 38 for almost a year now, getting regular use, recently noticed it lost a bit of its chime and depth. Read a few posts on the forum about how it's not unreaonable to change out the EL-84 power tubes at 6 months to a year. Put in a new set of GT EL-84S (6 rating, same as the stock tubes) and it instantly came back to its old self! Very happy, thanks to all who offered the advice in the forum.
Anyway, I've also read some older posts in the forum about the Svetlana 12AX7 (the New Sensor tubes, not the SED's...), and how installing them in V1 and V2 does some good things for the 38's tone. Thought I'd start a new thread on the topic and see what y'all think about this tweak.
Thanks!

sparrow, I haven't tried 'em yet. I think that was a recommendation from DR Z himself. DougG

I did it.
To my ears it just lessens the shrillness of the high end. It might be a good idea if you run single coils through the high input and run your cut and treble bright.
