Can any one please tell me what brand of preamp tubes are being shipped in the Maz Sr's these days. Thanks.

Since I just had to replace mine after 4 months of slight usage, the amp came with Groove Tubes EL84S with a 6 rating. I plan on purchasing a quad of JJ's from Eurotubes very, very soon. I think I blew them out by connecting a guitar into the input without the amp being on standby. not sure thought but that's when the terrible noises started. go to guitar amp blueprinting and see Myles Rose's page on the type of tubes he uses with his and with Brad Paisley's stuff.

Sorry, samuelson but those are power amp tubes. You misread the question, no doubt. Something else - you may have damaged your output transformer, not the tubes. You can always use the tubes again later so get some Groove Tube #6s, or JJs, and try them out. Hopefully the bad sounds will go away. If not get ready for a repair bill. It depends on what you did while you thought the amp was warming up. If you had it cranked and was rocking out you may have damaged your o/t. If it was only 20 or 30 seconds and you weren't pushing it, you're probably okay. New tubes will tell that. Good luck! Re: Preamp tubes Check Dr Zs own newsletters or email Z. He, or the sales department will email you back.

A karma goes to Curtis (tele62) for this info which was sent to him and he passed it on to me along with his former 'El Senior'. Use at your own risk.
"I have found from time to time that the tesla ECC-83 preamp tubes that I use in position V1 and V2 in MAZ series amps can have an upper mid responce that is a touch harsh. I really liked the tube for it's gain and durability but plug a Tele in and watch out . So in my never ending quest to improve and tweak my production amps I got some Svetlana 12AX7's to try. First I used them in the MAZ 18 JR NR, and I installed them in all three positions, and wow the amp took on a warmer richer tone. Also the note swell and sustain increased something I just love being a David Gillmore fan.
I first tried just V1 and V2 swap leaving in the Sovtek 12AX7 LPS as the phase inverter, but I found the drive a bit too much and to spread accross the Freq. band, if that makes sense. I installed a Svet in V3 and wow more 3 rd. order distortion, very sweet and warm great low end, mid moved down in responce and the top end was very pleasant. I installed this compament in the MAZ SR NR with equal results.
Now on the reverb models I left the 12AX7 LPS in the PI ( V5) because I liked the articulation it gave the reverb amps , but used the Svets in V1 and V2 for added warmth and less harsh responce.
Try for your self and see, I'm still working with them and so far they seem to be a very well built tube with good tone . I have also used them in the RX ES position V1 and V3 with very good results."
