When I crank up the volume on my RXjr and turn the master down a little, the amp sounds a little "harsh". It's not quite as musical as I would like. Does this mean its time to change all the tubes or just the preamp or power tubes? I've been running it through a Celestion Blue or a 2x10 with a blue pup and silver pup. Any other suggestions that it maybe? Thanks in advance.

Try changing the power tubes. Worn out power tubes sound harsh and sterile.

check the eq settings as well... I noticed that if i crank my volume and then lower the master the tone starts to get muddy sounding on mine with the eq dimed a little. so if you boost the high and mids a bit it might help. but again it could still be the tubes like benttop said.

I have found settings that work well for me with any speaker, combination of speakers, and any guitar. Hi Imput OD on Master 11:00 Volume 2:00 Bass off Mids 3:00 Treble 9:00 I am convinced this is 'the' sweet spot with my amp/tube set. No dirt boxes needed. Best, Curt

Thanks for all the suggestions. I hope to be able to try all of them after Christmas. It's way too cold here to even think about playing guitar right now!
