Fellow Forum Members my hat is off to you all . I read nearly every thread posted and listened to every sound byte several times before deciding which Z amp to purchase. I put roughly 4 months into this effort and finally after much deliberation and many personal messages with lots of great advice I pulled the trigger on a Maz 38 NR Head in black tolex ;D. I was able to get great tone immediately at any volume with no effort. I love my THD BiValve however spent months and months switching tubes and trying all manner of combinations to get a good tone and it has to be cranked up loud. The Maz sounds great at any volume! Special thanks go to Jgleaton for his ability to hone in on my needs and then steer me in the right direction, very talented and patient fellow . Special thanks also goes to benettop for taking time to assist me and to help find the head at a local music store in Washington State. I would also like to thank Myles, Madison, BW, squeallydan, bluzsteel, arthur and many more for taking time out of their busy schedules to help a stranger in his quest for great tone!! Thank you guys very much!! Stan

I see the Maz sr as the main stem and the others as branches on the family tree. It's really a great amp. Yesterday I played a 40 minute set at The Great American BBQ here in Kansas City. For a short set like that I decided to use what they had on stage for a backline. When I got up there a 2 x 12 Fender DeVille amp was already there on standby so I used it. I sure missed my Maz 38. I turned the bass about off, treble on about 9:00, mid about 2:00 and volume at about 10:00 to 11:00. When it went into distortion from my compressor/boost for solos it wasn't pretty. The Maz does it much better! You made a good choice. Now begins the process of collecting the others. Hint: Ghia is great for a recording amp. Played clean it is really sweet and pushed it's a little monster.

Jason, I look forward to getting together stay in touch. I absolutely love the THD cab. I have never heard the Z cabs and am sure I would love them too but I was lucky to talk the little wife into letting me have the Maz ;D. I have done a fair amount of speaker swapping and testing. Both the Webers and the Tone Tubbies do the trick for me. The Celestion Blue is also a great speaker only I don't believe it would survive anything but a low watt amp like the Fender Deluxe. I have several EV's that I like 12L's, vintage SRO's and 12S's. Great speakers for certain applications. I even have a few vintage Alnico Altec Lansing's I have used in recording sessions with great results. I have a half dozen Celestions I need to list on Ebay one of these rainy days. Or maybe when you decide to have a yard sale I'll come join you with a bunch of my stuff . Billy, Yes I believe you are correct the Maz is a solid roots workhorse amp that also feeds the addictive nature of a gearhead ;D leading eventually to financial difficulty . I hope to be able to acquire at least two more Z amps plus a few cabs over the years. A Ghia and a Stang Ray are top on the list at the moment. BTW...I have read many of your posts and have visited your band's web site....class act all the way . I especially enjoyed the one about how much folks are making at gigs across the country. Pretty sad really. I believe musicians made more than $100 a night back in the late 60's early 70's if I could only remember that far back . I do remember getting $2,000 to $3,000 a nite for private parties back then. Gas was only $0.35/gallon and 10 cents for a loaf of bread. A Les Paul was only like $600. Something isn't right with this picture . Stan
