bought this 2/12 combo from willcutts about 3 years ago, had a slight ding, bought at discount. sort a babied it, the groove tubes it came with didnt last too long, with bedroom playing it seemed, one of them got really red, but it still sounded good. put a set of jj's in there and never looked back. very durable punchy tubes... so i was back and forth about selling it as it is heavy,,, used to put the bass treb mids on about 12 oclock and tweak... lots of different tones in there... a great tele or humbucker amp, loud,,, now, when i dont want to tweak i just dime the bass mid and treb, put cut about 9 oclock or higher, master on 12oclock and dime the volume,,, use your tone and volume on guitar,,, also evolved to a 30 watt weber blue dog alnico and a 30 watt weber ceramic blue dog, with mulder audio cable jumpers etc, this amp is gratifying in every sense. just thought i'd post this in case someone on the fence that likes loud reliable amps might want to read it. the distortion with this amp is "smooth". simple as that... the flagship of the line. proud to own it. you can plug your acoustic/electric in this thing and it sounds great

Change the output set every 300 hours at the most. You will notice a difference in only 100 hours.
Level of playing means nothing .... this is a cathode biased amp and it is running at full bore anytime it is turned on and off of standby.

After owning my Carman Ghia for a month, I had to give the MAZ Sr a try and have one on the way. Had to let the 66 go... Myles, To get the most life out of CG el84 tubes should I turn off the CG on breaks? Thanks, Drew

Myles, To get the most life out of CG el84 tubes should I turn off the CG on breaks? Thanks, Drew Drew, If the break is more than 15-20 minutes I'd turn it off for the most part. Then again ... it is the heat up and cool down that causes physical microphonics so another option is to just leave it on and have a bit faster tube wear. Basically it is personal preference.
