1991 MAZ 38 reverb 1-12"
Only way to describe this sound is an electrical "Fart" (sorry). Has only happened a few times recently. Power tubes are about 8 months old, with 50-60 hours on them.
Since I've had no other problems, I am thinking that I might have a power tube issue.
Any thoughts?
Thanks folks.

Stratbrat, I would change out the tubes with fresh ones first just to see if that solves it.... then go from there... but somebody else more knowlegable than I may chime in and tell you exactly whats causing this particular problem and the solution... good luck and let us know if the tubes fix it and if not what did? Hey thats an OLDER maz...1991? still sounds great other than the gas sounds it's making right?? you should put up a pic. Jason

does the noise stop? i replaced the power tubes with new ones and after i turn on the standby and the amp comes on i hear a rumbling pop noise through bothe spkrs then it quits. i put the old tubes back in and it still does it. changed rectifier tubes, the same thing. i emailed dr z about it and he said he couldnt say exactly without looking at it, but it wont hurt anything. niine is a 2003 model with stock speakers. when i got it the reverb 12ax7 was making noises ( a jj) so i put a good one in it. the amp sounds great. i initially was worried about it but it is a tank...

Ah, Jason that's what I get for trying to do too many things at one time. It is a 2001 model, not 1991. Sheeeesh, I lost a whole decade somewhere!!!! I know I lost the 70's, but that was a different story.
Cementman: Yes it stops. It has only happened a few times, unfortunately it happened once during an audition for a group that I really want to join. But it is definitely a loud "fart" sound and then it's gone. Checked and changed chords, all of the usually stuff, until all I had was a dependable chord directly into the amp. And this happened at several different places.
So I'm pretty sure it's the amp. I'll go ahead and swap out to new power tubes first, as the pre-amps are newer.
I'm hoping someone could confirm this is probably the problem as I have a big 2 day gig coming up in Ocean City. MD in 2 weeks. I have back-up amps, but they are not Z's So I really hope the tubes are the problem.

With a MAZ, you should have backup power tubes anyway. Even if it's not the tubes, you'll use them eventually anyway. So try the tubes first.
If you've already checked chords. What about effects? I had a 'farting' session with my gear. It came from a bad connection between the chord and the effect. (Dirty female plug...(Hey, that sounds like a band name))
Let us know what you find out.

gtrman3: I did remove everything out of the chain, just went direct from guitar to amp with a quality chord that I checked with a meter. Still had the problem.
You are absolutely correct about having extra tubes on hand! I've got plenty of 6l6's and El34's for my other amps and a big variety of pre-amp tubes. For some reason I have been remiss and getting extra EL84's!!!!
Got them on order and will see if that is the issue.
I was just hoping someone else had experienced this and could confirm that it was a tube problem. I need to use the amp in couple of weeks at a big gig and I really don't want this thing to have any major problems (yep, got backup amps, but they sure don't "replace" the MAZ 38!)
Thanks for the info!
