Well after much procrastination and debate, I now am the owner of a NR Maz sr. I suspect this will end my need to build a Vox but we shall see. Needing a cab for my jtm 45 project, I am now searching for a cab. The pain of looking at this amp with nothing to run it through may end me. I found the Z best too focused for my needs and I am trying to decide if I should build my own, I own a dovetail jig. Or buy from Avatar. It is hard to by the materials for what Avatar sells for. Oh my Fender reverb fits perfectly with its big Matchless feet mostly clear of the vent and handle. Rob

Oh I should add that I am impressed with the logic that has gone into the design of this amp. I have not had it out of the head box yet but the chassis that is threaded to accept hardware without retention devices is very clever. I also like the generic appearance of the top deck. I think this could go on to be the next traynor. It just looks so mod able, ah all those empty socket locations. Rob continued

Ok....I understand your attention to design and build quality.....Z's are built like tanks....but how do you like the sound? I wouldnt' rule out the Z-Best just yet....have you played it live? Also, if you want a Cab to spread out the sound, try a Z 4x10...KILLER! Good luck, Mark

52ftbuddha, You seem interested in modding and making stuff. I think you should, if that is your fancy. You can make yourself a cab and put whatever speakers you want inside. There are some great resources here on this forum, from speaker suggestions and reviews to grille cloth installation tips to vendors for tolex in all colors. Be sure to post a photo when you're done with your project! Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome, M1911 I love the sound. It is so nice to finally have an amp in use that I can use the eq on. I have been using a Bassman LTD with FD2 and OCD and with my tele and Lester it was about to drive me nuts, I was constantly tweaking it to reign in the treble. I like 10s but I think with this amp I am going to use a Red Fang and a G12H30 of some flavor. It is the first MV I have found that is usable, I have not found that I need to use my attenuator yet. I hope I can score one of the Avatars of Ebay for less than retail and then I wont have to fire up the router. The ball and chain has so many home projects in my future I need to watch out for my amp building addiction. Back to the sound, it gives me better than my sold for 4k+ SC30 for much less money and I dont miss the EF86 at all. I am after vox chime and I can have it in spades with this plenty of swirl. Was on a borrowed cab for a few days but now without. On to ported cabs. They are a strange beast, back in the day I had two Boogie thiels and they would take off a head at 15ft. My bass player called it the cone of death. I think the port adds a massive amount of bass that I dont want makes my footprint too large with others, and they are just as directional as the boogies. Off axis I can hear the whole frequency range change dramatically. I should say that I play clean or with slight break up so open backs are my preference. Rob

Avatar makes great cabs for the money. Also, you can get some great cabs from Mojo Electronics at cheap prices. I think you can get an empty 2x12 birch cab for $200.00 with black Tolex & Fender grill cloth. Add another $25.00 and they will do different color Tolex & grill cloth.
Mojo once told me that they have made cabs for Dr. Z and Germino.
