Hi! I am looking to add a reverb unit of some type into the loop in my Maz 38 NR 2x12 combo.
Does anyone have suggestions? I would very much welcome your opinions / expertise in this matter.
Thank you !
Blessings, Phillll

Hi Philberto, the holy grail seems to be a good option. JGleaton on the forum uses one. Getting an outboard Reverb tank like the fender one seems to be a good but expensive option as well. I have heard some raves about the Line6 verbzilla. I don't play with reverb myself very often, but all these seem to be good choices and are worth checking out.

Thank you ! Blessings, Phillll Hi Philberto, I actually had problems with using a reverb pedal in the fx loop. Look at this thread: drzamplifiers.proboards41.com/index.cgi?board=Maz38&action=display&thread=1142030185I also checked out these two reverb pedals: The Holy Crap, sorry, Grail I didn't like cause it's too noisy and the decay is way too long and unnatural. The Verbzilla is IMO a much better pedal. Very versatile but even if you are only looking for a spring reverb (like me) it is great pedal. The Decay time is adjustable and the sound is very warm and surprisingly not digitally cold. Another option could be the Danelectro Spring King. I will give this one a try soon... It has a real spring inside but it's only used for the "crash effect" foot pad (think of D. Dale kicking his amp to get this effect of banging springs...).

;DPhilberto, Hi.. I used the Holy Grail with my MAZ 18 NR to great effect, until I traded it on another Z.... and when the reverb on my MAZ 38 went out ( had to send it back to doc to get it fixed) I used it through the FX loop ( my MAZ has reverb AND an FX loop on it) and it sounded great...just as good as the internal to me.. I NOW use it with the loop in the STINGRAY and it sounds wonderful... it's DEAD QUIET, and I use it only on the SPRING setting, barely turned on (8:00-9:00)... I used it at an outside gig on a big stage last night w/ MY STINGRAY head through MADISONS old cab ( other guitarst was using the STINGRAY combo that matches mine from wilcutts!!! 2 STINGRAYs on one stage!!! ROCKIN!!). My Stingray and my MAZ both sounded GREAT... it was UNMIKED and I couldn't turn both on at the same time..had to switch between them for different sounds but worked great... ( think I was still a little too loud until about 1/2 way through but w/ no REAL sound check AS ALWAYS our 1st set WAS the soundcheck ... AS ALWAYS) I also have and use a Fender reissue tube spring reverb unit that I like but would rather take the smaller holy grail than lug that around too... I don't know about real.sladdi's problem or why he was havin it but I know the power supplies have to match and also I've heard of folks having problems when running certain EH products though power supplies getting some bad sounds ( through certain pedal boards power supplies, I've heard of folk having problems with several companys pedals, not getting along with the power supply??)...... I don't know if something like this was real.sladdi's problem or what ( maybe just a bad one??) but I have 2 holy grails with one as a backup and have used em for YEARS with no problems... for around $100 you could try it and if you don't like it your not really out a whole lot... I even used one in and out between channels on a bassman when jumping the channels...for a real neat sound.... some of the other products mentioned may also work for ya I've heard several folks mention they have and use the verbzilla... I've just been happy with the Holy Grails... I really find I don't need much if any reverb on the Z's so I really only add just a touch..and don't miss it if I don't have it they are soooo responsive.... ;D ;D Jason

I think there's two reasons why some get noise with the Holy Grail. 1) running it into the front of the amp. 2) wrong power supply. And maybe some are just bad?

Could be a difference in the Holy Grail version too... The newer ones are true bypass so there is a critical difference when switched ON or OFF. Maybe the older ones were more quiet...? The one I had was brand new with the original Power supply and - yes, I had to run it in front of my amp because of the problems (?) with my fx loop One interesting thing: there are a lot of posts in Harmony Central about the HG - and almost everybody talks more or less about it's "noisiness", even if they love that pedal. Good night (it's bed time in Germany... )

Yes, There ARE two versions and I have one of each... I usually use the newer true bypass one in case I want to shut it off...which usually I don't, so really the old one would work fine if your gonna run it all the time... BUT niether of mine is really noisy when ON? I did run mine in FRONT of my old RX for a little verb cause it doesn't have th fx loop and it was a little noisier that way; but not so bad I couldn't have lived with it. It didn't affect the tone too badly. When I tried it in front of my Carmen Ghia, I DID NOT like it with that amp as it REALLY affected the tone... I just prefer the RX and the GHIA without reverb.... If I want verb I just use the MAZ or the STINGRAY.... Jason

I read all the reviews..here and on HC.......and was scared off, but the I got really scared off by the price of an Uncle Spot........so I went to store that sold the HG........I am not sure what version I bought, but, it was dead quiet in front of the maz I tested it with and it was no drain on the overall tone.....I liked it as much if not more than the verb on the Maz....which caused me to order mine without verb............so I bought it and it sounds great in front of my rt 66 with NO efx loop. sounds like its "finicky" frustrating!

Thank you guys, one and all ! I own a 1963 Brown Fender Reverb unit, but I haven't tried it yet. I plan to try it in the loop and see how it does. I am running the amp pretty much cranked out, so it will be interesting to see how that works. Again, thank you all very much for your valuable time and expertise. I have had very little forum experience, but this is by far the best forum I've ever been involved in. Blessing, Phillll
