Just got delivered a MAZ 38 Sr. Blonde 1-12 NR...now to play around and see what all the fuss is about... gonna change the rectifier to a mullard as i have a few laying around and leave the rest alone...I may change speakers as I am not a big fan of celestions, although I have a combo with the old style england vintage 10's and that sounds great.. I think I will go with the Tonker as I have always liked eminence anyway. In any event I am pretty jazzed up over this amp, so i think I will start out in the parking lot for a while, then take her directly to the autobon (sp) and see what she really is made of. I have always just played the hell out of amps pretty quickly and I will do that with this one.... Just ordered a Tonker from Avatar, for 57.00 shipped how can you go wrong? If anyone has suggestions or comments, please feel free to shoot them my way...I know its early in the game but the 1-12 is a big sounding amp....and I like that... Since I am brand new to Z-land if I rant on too much please bear with me, after all the years I have been playing, its good to feel the rush of new horizons.... Looking forward to a long association with the Z Now to figure out how to get more in the house....unnoticed...damn Z on the front sticks out like a sore thumb!..HA!

Welcome, I hope to get mine any day as well. The Z tone controls will be new animals to ya, they have been to ALL of us, don't set 'em in std. spots, twist 'em !!
There's lots of good threads here in the SR and JR sections, do a search and ENJOY !

I heard, don;t remember where or from who/what that removing the pre-amp shields makes the amp sound better, something to do with heat/harmonics/and some sort of magnet field? anyone else heard this true/old wives tale/lie?

Welcome! A Z-Brake will be a nice addition to the amp. Allow you to really crank the heck out of it, play a little dirty without waking up the neighborhood.
The effects, tubes, speakers etc.. section of this board has a lot of good information. THere is also an 'ask the experts' section where you can really learn a lot from Myles, BW, Zac, Bluezteel and many more!
Good luck and enjoy!

I always take the shields off. I've never had radio interference yet. I think it couldn't hurt to let some heat get away.

A very good point, now is perhaps not the best time to start a "learn as you go" . My knowledge is extremely limited and I never exceed what I actually know...as bluzsteel remarked...death from voltage.... If I am not 100% sure I just won;t play around with it....no guessing or "lets see what this does".

Death from Voltage... I face it every day cause I'm in "real life" a field service engineer for X-Ray systems. REAL BIG tubes, man - I tell ya! And they are powered with 150.000 Volts. But that's a different thing... Fishman, I was only asking cause you were talking about the preamps and I was not sure if you mean the preamp tubes (the preamp section is a little bit more than just the tubes... ). I'm german and I need to ask sometimes when it comes to language terms...

Glad to see you got it in good shape! Told you Humbucker was a great place Like I said in the email, my best suggestion for getting an even bigger sound out of the Senior is another 1x12, HUGE sound! It's such a nice spread and the Maz is such a 3D sounding amp that at times you could swear you're playing in stereo. ;D I just got my 1x12 Z-cab from Humbucker today, about $450 and 2 weeks after having the good doctor build it, can't wait to try it out with my Maz Jr. 1x12 combo. I've been playing the Jr. through my Senior 2x12 combo's cab at home, making it the most cumbersome head and cab set up out there. ;D The Senior will be glad to have it's speakers back. Anyways, welcome to Z family! -Greg

Just getting aquainted with the MAZ ...takes a while to get to where you want to be....bad part is that there are many ways to get a good sound, and unfortunatly you can only play one sound at a time....well, thats not totally true, but for this discussion it is...could always do the trainwreck 3 amp set-up...mannn and I was gonna downsize too!....for right now, I am going to leave it as a 1-12 combo....no extra cab....I am however and I hate to admit this, planning for Z #2 with a head/cab config....thinking maybe a Prescription ES , or maybe a STINGRAY-rte 66 or??? have not made up my mind yet....but I am hooked...I knew it!....rats...just when i thought i was out, I get dragged back in.....course I am the one dragging me!!..

Ain't it the truth! That's the only thing that frustrates me with my Maz's is that they sound so d@mn good in so many different settings, and you can never decide on which one is the best! As far as your new addiction, all it takes is one to get the ball rolling. There was a brief moment when I thought that my Senior was the last amp I would ever need and almost felt relieved. But then I found this d@mn forum and was ruined for life! -Greg

I will need some down time soon....HA!...been playin the tolex right off the MAZ....and the longer I play it , the more intricate it becomes... I can see that I will have to get into a "that sounds GOOD enough" or I will be tweaking and playin' around with it constantly....it seems to be the nature of the beast...I have been able to get a bad sound but I had to work at it...even with all the controls bass-ackwards the sound that comes out has a usable, albiet, limited application.....so even as bad as I can make it, it is still useable....I find that fascinating...
