Hello, this is my first post. I have been a visitor here for a long time and finally got around to joining. I have already learned a lot here! Ive been meaning to right a few things about myself on the welcome post. I have owned my Maz SR for a year (as of Feb 27, yes I know the date!) and I absolutely love it.
My problem is this: I replaced my power tubes about a month ago, and I have no more than sixty hours on them. I don' think its been that many probably more like 30, but I don't keep track. Today two of them started glowing cherry red (the two furthest from the preamp tubes.) I only mention this because this happened once before and it was the two closest to the preamp. I emailed the Dr and he said to swap them and if the same two tubes glowed in their new position then it was the tubes that were the problem and not the amp. I did this and it turned out to be the tubes. Since two of them are glowing cherry red I take it I need to replace them (all 4 of course.) It just seems like I'm burning through tubes way to fast. This is my third set of output tubes in a year plus for a couple months I had a set of jjs in it that I had pulled out of my Budda twinmaster plus. So I guess that's three and a half sets of tubes in year. The first three months I owned it I was gigging in a band 2 or 3 gigs a week plus two rehearsals a week. So I can see going through tubes in that situation. But this last set has been almost entirely low volume in my apartment. It seems they should last a lot longer under these circumstances. My question is this. Is this just a case of low quality tubes? They were jjs bought from tube depot. The boxes say the bias point is 25 if that means anything. Are they just not matched close enough? Thanks in advance for any help, and I look forward to more posts in the future.
