6 weeks and counting since I ordered tha maz 38........killin' me!
anyway, I wanna get portability and also some AB possibilities with my RT 66........I started a thread about a z 2x 10 with the RT 66 and the consensus was that it sounded smaller........and not as good as a single 12 or the z best cabinet.........
My question here is whether the Maz 38 sounds good with the 2 x 10...........I know it comes as an option so I am guessing they are a good pair.......
I am not looking for a compromize though.......like a single 12 is a compromize for the RT 66....but won't sound as big and open as the z best.... as the 2x 12 z best IMO is THE speaker setup for that amp........I only want to get the z 2 x 10 if when plugged into the MAz, I am gonna hear something special......do they have a made for one another sound?
I'll just grunt it out and transport a 2 x 12 otherwise.
am I making sense?

19jmm68, I'd be glad to elaborate on this later, but the sound of the 2x10s my Maz is pushing makes my mouth water!

I've got a maz38, Z-Best(2X12 of course), a Z 2X12 open back, and a Z 2X10...and I use each cab based on - well, whim mostly.
But in my experience, the way I would describe the sound is thusly:
the open back is nice and airy, with crisp highs and not-too-rumblin' lows. The Z-Best is a marshall killer - I mean it. It is without doubt the best sounding cab I've used (or heard) for its size. deep lows, somewhat less-defined highs, and good mids. now the 2X10 - completely different. It is a British sound to be sure. To me, it captures the Vox sound better than any cab The Dr. offers, due in part to those custom speakers. But don't think you're gonna get the rumble of the Z Best, or the airiness of the open-back...It combines features of both and that's where the similarities end.
Now for your real question - portability. If I'm going to a small country music gig , I pack the open-back. If I'm going to a small gig playing some rough and rowdy, I pack the 2X10. For big gigs, i throw everything I own in the truck and trailer. The Z-Best and open-back hooked together are unstoppable. I gotta get me a Z-matcher and try all three together...

Aw..........thanks guys for the thoughtful responses.............my question was COMPLETELY answered..................sounds like the 2 x 10 has its own special thing going and, in addition, the open back 2 x 12 is cool...........in its own way.
King B, what speakers are in your open back 2 x 12 ?
+1 for both of you guys replying, thanks!

The open-back has the same speaker config as the Z-Best - 1 G12H30 and 1 vintage 30...It's the cab designs that makes all the difference in the sound.
And again, if you get any or all these cabs (or others) and you are not thrilled with the sound, it's a simple matter to stick some other speakers in there.

I'm jonesing for a head and a 2-10 cab. I think the 2-10 sounds great, good dispersion, plenty of low end for me and feather light.

I'm thinking about a 'Ray head with the 2-10, blondes have more fun with me too. Maybe seeing if the Doc will sell me a head box for my Maz combo chassis.
