I have Z 4x10 Cab that sounds great with my Z28. I would like to sell my Super Reverb and get a Maz Sr if it can give me the Super Reverb clean tone through my 4x10? ??

Hi Lefty, I have a Maz sr, and I would say that it will get very close, but not quite as bright as the super. That might be a good thing!!

The full EQ of the Senior makes it easier to dial in by dropping the middle down a bit. The Senior can run as clean as you want but has more low-end and body I think. You can also dial in all the brightness you will ever need. If you have a Z 4x10 Cab already....run, don't walk, to order a MAZ Senior Head. This is my favorite amp set-up. Mark

I find that it can get tones similar to the Super...and plenty bright too. The Z has more sonic capabilities for sure though.

I asked the Dr about some settings once for my MAZ Sr & he sent me a page with three different settings with pictures of the Knobs set...don't know what came of it though... I did find a link on the MAZ Jr page that had a "Harmony Central" review and it had the listings ....so....
1)"Vintage Tweed" Volume Max, T,M,B Max, Master 9-11:00, Rev 10:00, CUT 10-12:00 2) "British Pop" Volume Max, T,M,B 12:00, Master 9-10:00, Rev 10:00, CUT 10-12:00 3) "Black Face Scoop" Volume 9:00, T,B Max, Mid Off, Master Max, Rev 12:00, CUT 10-11:00

Yeah.. I agree with Bluzsteel. But, that's not to say you can't get great cleans out of the MAZ amps. And depending on how you set it, you can definitely get in Fender territory. LeftyLang, if you'd like, I'll send you a couple of sound clips. Just send me an e-mail. They are in wav formats, so pretty simple.... They should be posted on the Weber site within the next few days. Basically just a demo of the Blue Dog and Silver Bell speakers. They were recorded with my MAZ Sr, and a Strat plugged staight in. Just good, fat, clean tone with a touch of hair on it. I'd find it hard to believe that someone dead set on "Fender cleans" wouldn't dig the cleans of a Z...

My Z's are not 10" combo's but 12" and I get what I think are better than Fender-Fendery sounds from mine by putting the mid about 8 o'clock and adjusting the rest of the controls to taste. I also use Ei Elite 12ax7 in the first two preamp tube positions and Phillips NOS at7 for the phase inverter. Open, fat clean and bright.

Hi Lefty, I have a Maz sr, and I would say that it will get very close, but not quite as bright as the super. That might be a good thing!! I get Super Reverb tones with an open back 4x10 P10R cab quite easily and if you use the reverb channel on the Super Reverb and compare to the MAZ Sr with a long smooth plate Telefunken in V1 of the MAZ or a long smooth gray plate Ei (GT-7025) you will find it just as bright as any Super Reverb if you want that.

IMO the Super Z does everything I wish a super would. Plus it doesn't have that pesky reverb

Don't underestimate the effect of the open back 4x10 cabinet with AlNiCo speakers for getting the Super Reverb tone. I've played a Maz 38 and Supers extensively, and I will say that the Maz 38 can come very close to replicating the sound of a good Super, but the maz can do much more and the Super is always a Super. I love a great Super Reverb, but my Maz 38 replaced my Supers and I've never once missed the Supers.
Try a Maz 38 Sr head with an open back 4x10. That's as close as you'll get with a Z amp, and it's very close. My 2x10 combo does a good job getting close as well.

It's such a versatile amp Lefty, your gonna love it. A friend of mine has a 65 BF Super and he recently played my Sr and the first thing he said was "It sounds like my Super". He's a studio musician and has a good ear, I thought it was quite a nice compliment for the Sr. Jason

I currently own 2 Super Reverbs a 66 and a 71 which were my main gigging amps until I bought my Maz Jr head and Z-Best cab. Now I am trying to convince myself to sell the old Fenders, but it is turning out to be a really hard thing to do, I hate parting with gear because you never know. I find the Maz gives me a close approximation to the Supers sound but I do find the overdrive different. The supers are 40 watts and I generated most of my OD tone from stomp boxes to help keep the volume down during practice sessions. The Jr gives me speaker breakup much sooner so I am still trying to work out the use of my old OD boxes, maybe I'll get rid oft them too, but probably not! [glow=limegreen,2,300]-J-[/glow]
