Greetings campers, I just bought a new Maz 38 sr with reverb today. The reason I got one is the obvious tone improvments over my old 1978 Fender Twin, which had numerous glassy tube rattles and noises all the time. So I traded a Firebird V and the Twin +a little dough and got my new Maz. Got home, plugged it in and played. AWESOME tone...but you know this.
Here's what you don't know...it also had a rattle. A thin metallic rattle like the sound of vibrating parts. I had read about the covers for the tubes sometimes making noise so I removed them. No dice.
I had a friend listen also so I could make sure I wasn't imagining it. Well, I wasn't. It rattles. Mostly on an open A as the note decays but it is present in other notes as well. So I looked real good at the inside with out taking it apart and could see nothing loose. But nothing seemed to stop it. Until I sat on the amp. Sitting on the right side of the amp(right...with your back to it, left as you face it) makes the rattle stop completely. Another thing that helps it wedging something under the handle so the handle is taut. I figure it must be a mounting screw for the handle or something. I hate to bring it back but the guy at the shop in Colorado told me I absolutely should bring it back to see if they can find the source.
One more thing....it didn't rattle when I played it in the shop before buying it....but it had another amp on top of it...weighing it down.
Anyone have any ideas, suggestions or thoughts? M

I'd tighten all the screws Cab & chassis I've had some trouble with "tube" rattle before...I thought it was one of the pre-amp tubes ...but it turned out to be an EL-84 tube

tried that....the only thing that consistantly works is sitting on it. I played with a band last night and never heard it but I'll be looking for it today.

Don't feel bad I kept hearing arattle for a long time when I had my Maz 38 ...I tried everything ...one day my brother was plying through it & I was standing off to the side...I had a gun cleaning kit sitting on the floor a few feet from the amp .....turned out it was making the noise...doh!!!

lol Yeah I am pretty thick-headed and quick to blame. I can't say enough nice things about Z's handling of the situation.

Zane, don't use gun oil on yer amp, OK? Johnnie Red brought his 1X12 MAZ combo over one day blowin' fuses--sometimes. Turned out it was one of the spring retainers folded up under the 84 shortin' a few pins together...very intermittently. Be careful when ya change 84's boys! You Geezers-and you KNOW who ya are--wear yer readin' specs and miner's helmet when you're foolin' around in there!
