Hello all, new here--
What EF86-based Z amp has the smoothest distortion sound? Hopefully not a higher-powered one, LOL! This is for a long-term quest, not buying soon, yet I'd like to know your opinions on which Z amp best fits this description:
-Excellent reaction to pick attack -cleaning up great by rolling back gtr volume knob -smooth-yet-midrangey (not too "dark") distortion sound -takes boost pedals well
Thus far I think Rt 66, RxJr and Z28 might be my best bets, leaning towards RxJr and Z28.
This would be to play R&B, rock, fusion-y (more in the funk/jazz, aka "junk" vein than in Holdsworth-type vein) stuff.
Thanks!

Between the Z28 and RX Jr I'd go RX Jr. It has a Master volume (or attenuator) on the back, which gives you more flexibility volume wise but not the headroom the Z28 has. If there's no OD pedals in the equation my choice would be/was the Jr. Good luck, Steve
