How many weeks was it between when you placed your orders and when you plugged in for the first time?
(You pay-and-play-ers who walked into the dealer's, threw down your money and drove home with ear candy in the car will spare me the agony of reciting times from your stopwatches, please!)

I'm ordering my MAZ 38 the week in between X-MAS and New Years and I've heard the wait can be 4-6 weeks or more. That info could be way off the mark now depending how busy he is or isn't. I guess I'll know for sure real soon. Now I just gotta find a way to pass the time away;>)

FWIW...I never played any of my Z's before owning My Z-28 was the only one I bought used. I just shopped around till I found a place with one in stock or on order before I plunked down my pesos. With it on order it really cuts down on the wait.

I got my Maz38 two years ago. It took 3-4 months from the time I ordered it to the time I got it. I got to talk with DRZ several times through the build process. At the time he was swamped with orders and had just sent one of his son's, who had been building all the Maz38's, to college. Said he'd take care of me with a special amp. Probably says that to all the guys! As far as I'm concerned I got that special amp. Am very happy. I guess my point is... You may get it in 6 weeks or 16 but the wait is well worth it!

4 weeks, why do you ask??? No reason, really. Just killing time until my Maz 38 arrives and wanted to know from you guys how much longer I should expect to wait. I'm not upset or anything. I knew it would be at least this long. I ordered mine October 26, so it'll be 8 weeks for me on Wednesday. I sold my Fenders (Pro Reverb and Princeton Reverb) and did some extra work so I could afford it. I am pleased about that because I like to buy gear free and clear, you know? I'm without an amp currently, so I've just been piddling around on my acoustics in the mean time (which both are in need of a set up, I'm afraid). I'm getting ready to either stay off of this forum to keep from thinking about getting this amp or I'll see if I can demo a Mini here in town just to scratch the itch for a little while longer. Maybe both.

He asks because he needs to have it for the Richmond "Z" Jam Jan 7! :-) Don't worry propellr, plenty of amps you can plug into if yours doesn't make it in time.

You're telling on me, Madison, but right, you are! Thanks for the "Plan B" amps, in any case. Karma for you!

I had been on the fence about getting the Maz for quite a while.... Looked around on the net for about a week, called around and eventually found the only one with the options and color I wanted at Humbucker Music in Georgia (the only Dr. Z product they had in stock!) gave him my credit card # on Wednesday 11/30/05 and received it in Phoenix, AZ on Tuesday 12/06/05 (which I now refer to as "Tonesday" ). Been smiling like a fool every time I plug in ;D -Greg BTW, I had never played any Dr.Z amp prior to purchasing, made the decision based strictly on reputation. Best decision I have ever made in a purchase.

My head and cab took about 6 weeks. I had played a 1x12 non reverb combo before, but ordered my setup without ever playing it. I have never been happier with my sound ;D I actually bought a THD Flexi-50 and 2X12 cab first and fought with it for 2 weeks at the gig Sounded great in the store, but like @#%* at the gig. Needless to say, I returned it, ordered the Z and haven't looked back Now I really have "Z-G.A.S."!!

propellr,
My Maz is the basic Black Tolex w/ salt-n-pepper grill, reverb and FX loop, 2x12 with the G12H and V30 combo. If I had my choice I think I would have opted either for black tolex with a nice hardwood front and ox blood grill, or the red tolex with salt-n-pepper grill. But my quest was for tone and this was the only one I found in stock out of all the dealers I called. I'm sure the black will hold up nicely overall for gigging, I thought blonde or red would show abuse a little easier. All I can say is be prepared to fall in love with playing the guitar all over again, I don't think I've ever enjoyed it this much ;D

I will, man. The hardwood panels are killer-- almost sprung for the tiger maple myself, but in the end I knew it wouldn't make me sound any better. Really, I didn't want my ES-335 to be jealous of a speakerbox.

So what options did you order for your Maz? Combo/head? Covering/grill/speakers?

Blonde tolex and brown grill cloth in a NR 2x10 combo with those sweet Z special design speakers-- I called Fat Sound yesterday and they will be in touch with Z soon to see if my Maz will be ready by Christmas. I tried and failed to post a pic of my 335 last night so you could see it. How do they do that?

Propellr: I just called Junior's Music last night. He told me the wait would be 6 weeks. You gotta be gettin yours soon bro. You can tell us all about it when you have yours and I'm playing the waiting game for mine. I'll be ordering mine almost a week from this very day.

propellr, Sounds nice...I'd like to hear how the 2x10 plays. About posting a picture, you have to upload the picture on a hosting website (there's a number of free sites out there, like Photobucket.com, or freeimagehosting .com), copy and paste the http:// link of the image to your post and place in between the image html tags [/img] (just click on the "insert image" tag button from the post menu and place the link in between the two sets of brackets). A little complicated, I know. But once you figure it out, its easy. -Greg

Thanks, Greg. I thought it had to be web-based or something like that. I'll try it.
jwr- I'm told it may be several more weeks. That's ok, though. I'll probably just plug straight in to my PA in the mean time and play through my two 15s with horns. Wish me luck in getting those to overdrive with 400 watts behind them!

Beautiful guitar! I sure wish Gibson, or somebody, would make a 335 type guitar with 25-1/2" scale. I don't seem to be able to go back to 24-3/4".

A Maz SR 38 w/reverb and a Z-28. Both as heads in blonde tolex with ox blood grill cloth and a 2X10 cab and a 1X12 cab covered the same way. I'm gonna put loops on both of them too. I can see my self using the 2 together a lot as I have discovered the joy of using the Voodoo Labs amp switcher with multiple amps, it's tone Heaven.

Word is my amp will likely ship out to me next week some time. I feel a cold coming on.
**Update**
Got an email from Stu at Fat Sound saying my amp should be at his place on Friday (today) and that he should be able to play test it and to get it shipped out to me Friday afternoon. That puts it on my porch either Saturday or Monday. I checked the UPS site and it indicates that they are delivering boh Saturday and Monday. I'm off work Monday, so having it then would be ideal.
