The previous post by Bob about the Ghia with a 335 inspired me to post this.
How can I get a good rock sound from my Ghia 1x12 (Weber Alnico Blue Dog) and a strat? You know, the edge of breakup sound.
My main strat these days is a black 56 closet classic, I mention that it's black because e
veryone knows that black strats sound the best ;D. I have most of the pedals that are discussed on these forums. Any suggestions?

A Strat and Carmen Ghia is my favorite combination actually.
Try the CG volume at 9:00 and the tone at 1:30 or so ... neck pickup and tone and volume on the Strat at max.
That sould be clean when you back off your touch and grind when you play harder.

Thanks for the reply Myles!
Does this mean that if I increase the volume of the Ghia my tone will get muddier? I would like to play at louder volumes. Is this possible with a Strat/Ghia combination? Joe

Joeyello, A strat just doesn't work with a Ghia...I'll give you my mailing address and you can send your strat to me, then you don't have to be bothered with these questions!

Joe My Strat is anything but muddy with my Ghia...I have to turn the "tone" knob past "noon" for it to not be overly bright ....I have a Tele that sounds great with my Ghia aslo + I have a P-90/ Bkaster 2 pup that sounds awesome ....I dig single coils & you just have to do a little knob turning & you can get the "best" tone for eack guitar ....GHIA'S RULE !!

I tried my Custom Classic Strat with WCR SRs and it sounds much better through the Ghia than the 56. The 56 is very dark on the neck pup, I am not sure why. I think I need to open it up and take a look at the wiring. There is something wrong because the bottom tone pot adjusts the tone on the neck pup.

My 56 was indeed wired incorrectly. I fixed the problems and now it sounds great! I experimented last night and ran my Ghia into my Z-Best 2x12 and wow I was blown away by how much bigger and better it sounded. So I decided to swap the speaker in the Ghia. I took out the Weber Blue Dog and put in a V30. It sounds great now! I ran my strat into a Klon into the Ghia and the tone was amazing. Both knobs on the Ghia at about noon and the Klon set with the gain down and the volume at about 1:00.
It would seem that the Blue Dog was contributing to the muddy, boxy sound I was hearing. I thought it improved the tone of the Ghia at first but maybe my tastes have changed.
Anyway.......all is good with my Ghia......red tolex, green jewel and all.

Last night at practice I ran a strat into my Ghia, turned the volume all the way up going into a 4x12 cabinet. Incredible. BTW, it was a sunburst strat. I was able to get the right amount of dirt when I played harder, but playing softly it cleaned up just right. For the heavier sounds I used a Fulldrive. I had been using a PRS with the vol (on the amp) about 10 o'clock. I think I am going to try some less powerful pickups in that guitar. Can't wait to run some p-90s into it, too!
See ya! -Phil

Is that a fairly hot P-90, or a little lower output? Or, I guess I should ask, "What pickup is that?"
Thanks! -Phil

Thanks! -Phil It's a Lentz he does his own pups...the P-90 is modeled after Scotts favorite P-90's from the '50's...they are lower powered...he built them from the ground up with VERY tight tolerances...to lessen any noise P-90's are known for :^) His Tele pups are modeled after early '50's pups also.... Great pups...great guitar! Gonna get me a duel P-90 Lentz when I can scrape up some extra moola ...
