After a couple months of analyzing, rationalizing, agonizing, waffling over configurations, wondering if I need it or deserve it, I finally pulled the trigger! Getting a blonde 1x12 combo with reverb. I can't wait! Life is too short to do without great tone. And every once in a while, it's good to get what you really want. Thanks to all who helped me throught the decision process. Can't wait to post on how it feels to play it.

I have exactly the same amp. I'm happy enough with that amp that I don't feel the urge to have another model. The only reason for me would be the more is better syndrome. If I do another model sometime I'll do the head seperate with a 2-10 cab. I've found that cranking the mid knob up to about 3:00 really makes the sound come forward, for clean or dirt. The master is great. Pull it down as low as you want, crank up the preamp and boost it with a compressor or boost pedal and you've got a great sounding blues rock machine at any volume. At times I'm not crazy about the reverb. Some have said a bigger tank helps. You may want to change out the Celestion if the cone cry irritates you as much as it does me. I hates cone cry and all Celestions, except perhaps the Lead 80 which I haven't heard, do it. You won't be dissappointed!!!!!!

You will love it , try plugging in to the low input with the master on 10 then pedal to taste , acts like a non master amp

Thanks for the tip, bluzsteel. And thanks to you, charlienc and uncle pat for the great "coaching" -- really helped my decision.
billy -- LOL! Appreciate the tips, but I think I'll live with it for a while before I start modding. Although it's always tempting... ;-)

I know how you feel. I just ordered mine last week and was told it would be about 1-2 months. I've had everything from old Fenders, to old Marshalls, to Bogners. The bogner was a great amp but it was like carrying a refrigerator around, and was still lacking in something. The best amp I've ever owned was a 67 plexi that I still regret giving up (stupid in my youth, what can I say). I only play strats and that was the only marshall I ever played that sounded exceptional with a strat. I've had 4 plexis since then and none of them could touch this one. Since then I've been trying to get that sound back, going through lots of different amps and pedals to find it. My buddy bought a maz 38 2x12 combo a couple of weeks ago, and when I plugged it in I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It had the same qualities as that old orange plexi. Tight focused bottom, nice midrange, very woody sounding, and it seemed to breathe. It also projected sound through out the room instead of slamming you in the head like a lot of amps do. I just bought a fender 64 custom shop vibroverb, that'll be on it's way back to the store shortly. My only problem with the maz combo was the overall weight, so I went for the head, and now just have to decide on a cab. A little more experimenting but I know it's gonna be worth the wait.

Bukowski, I'm in Toronto so I ordered mine from L&M Music. They're the local Dr. Z dealers here. It's funny though because I phoned Lauzon about a week ago. My buddy phoned them earlier and was told they had a variety of Dr.Z's in stock. I was going to drive down and try, and possibly purchase a Maz 38 head, but when I phoned they told me they'd sold the head just the day before. So much for the road trip. The person I spoke to didn't have the exact price, but L&M are pretty flexible, and most of the time if another store is selling something cheaper they'll lower their price to match or beat it by a few dollars. I figure when the head arrives I can try it through a variety of cabs, 1x12, 2x12, 2x10, for a general idea and see which one I like best. My friend is still sold on the 2x12 combo but I'd rather not have to lug the weight around if I don't need to. Another friend in town owns a store with a variety of vintage and boutique amps. I was there last night trying out a bunch to make sure I didn't make a mistake in judgement when ordering the Z. After about 3 hours of trying amps out, there's no mistake.

Hi fellow Z devtees. i just joined the group after buying a Maz invasion second hand on "the bay" for my Birthday six months ago?
The question I pose to you all here is this?
Why on earth did the previous owner sell?
Why would you ever want to sell a Z?
I could justify financial reasons but because of G.A.S. never!
Some of you might answer......
A: To buy a different Z oh OBI WAN
Heck, I say to you all this, I'd never sell this Z' Invasion. Sure there is the new Maz 38 Senior that definately has a broader bandwidth and its tones are voiced ever so dlightly different. It's a beautiful thing, but I say to you; Hey, what if you love the midrage honk that my red baby produces, playing either, a 1 piece swamp ash custom made 55' tele(blondie) with a 1 piece rock neck all nitro with a set of vintage Fralins or my 92' LP double cut TV (mellow yellow) and those lollar p-90s, then hey, I might have just reached tone nirvana. If you love the Britpop sounds of the 90's or 60's for that matter or even loved the sound of certain Indie trio from Athens, Georgia or even the dude with the blonde hair singing about having his last dance with his old gal "mary jane", then you'll know where I'm comming from. The only action I can justify with this whole Z thing is when you buy one of his damn amps......don't sell it........JUST BUY ANOTHER............heck buy them all.......these things are just that good.
Quick note: next acquisition is going to be a Z28 4X10............my early Knopfler licks will never have had it so good......ahh yeh and one of those new Stingrays and a 2x12 blue alnico cab.......hmmm ok I admit it, Im here to stay fellow Z' patients.
Keep on pickin'

Thanks ever so much for the psychological/psychiatric examination and help. I'm not sure it will stop me shelling out $100's, no let me re-phrase that, $1000's of dollars in the future but at least I will have had someone to talk through all this affliction with, someone that has suffered in the past as well.
I'm just wondering is there's any re-hab type Dr Z- Betty Ford style place in California, Arizona or even where the heart of rock n' roll lies "CLEVELAND" hmmmm what a catchy name for a song?
Keep on pickin'
