Billy - Funny should should mention the 'amp shootout'. The owner of the store I mentioned ("Rocker Guitars" in S.F.) has all of these high-end boutique amps and was trying to steer me AWAY from the Bogner Metropolis towards the new Pittbull Super 30 (he felt the Pittbull to be far superior tonally (!?). I was running short on time and wanted to line up those two plus a Maz Senior and a BadCat CubIIR (15 watt) but had to take a rain check. I was surprized to learn afterwards the respective prices of the Super 30 (around $1,150) and the Metropolis ($2200 w/reverb). If I get a chance to return to this place and spend some time checking out the various amps I'll post a full report.

The Cub also comes in 30 watts now. The Metropolis 30 watt is really a killer with great reverb. That would be a very interesting amp to a/b against the Maz 38. My Pittbull wasn't a super 30 but it had a upper mid hardness I could never dial out. Also I was p.o.'d at not really being able to swap speakers much. Maybe the Super 30 is better than the old one. I'd be surprised. VHT definitely has some fans but not me. I could only get $750 for it when I sold. The store owner probably assumes everyone wants a lot of gain the being why he thinks it's superior. I don't need gain, tone is most important. Z's have better resale.

I A/B'd the Bogner Metropolis and a RXES (they didn't have a Maz in the store) for quite a while in Austin @ Guitar Resurrection (great store). I don't think that the Metro was even up to the test. The RXES was so much more impressive in all regards that I ordered one on the spot. There was about 7 players standing around and it was unanimous in favor of the Z. Play on.
