Okay, folks, I know the tube lineup for the Maz Sr. Reverb, but what I don't get is what they're all supposed to do. For example, I assume the first AT7 is the reverb tube, and the other AT7 is the phase inverter, but what does the AX7 between the two AT7s do? Tone stack maybe?
Also, does the low input bypass one of the first two AX7s?
Thank you,
David

V1- INPUT GAIN V2-TONE STACK DRIVER V3- REVERB V4- REVERB RECOVEREY V5 -PHASE INVERTER Im glad this subject came up...for some reason I thought v3 was the inverter...DOH! Im hoping someone can elaborate on how each tube affects your tone if you were wanting to try some different tubes. Which tube has the most drastic affect on tone? Which is the least? What about gain/clean headroom? I think the answer there is V1 but hoping for more input.

Hey, I just played with different tubes in V1 in my Shiva and Trem-O-Verb. V1 will have the most dramatic effect on your tone and gain, usually. I've also heard that different kinds of phase inverters will change the sound of your output stage a lot, but I've yet to play around too much with that yet. An ECC83 will juice the front end of your amp a bit, while a 5751 will have a little less gain. The problem with preamp tubes is that they vary so much in consistency and everyone has a different idea of what sounds good in their amp. Check out guitaramplifierblueprinting.com TONES OF INFO THERE. Good luck

12AX7 = gain of 100, 12AT7 = gain of 66, 12Ay7 = gain of 44, 12AU7 = gain of 17

Just echoing what JWR said, tube changes in V1 will produce the most pronounced changes in tone, gain, etc. I experimented at my house band gig, with a different tube type (12AX7/12AT7/5751) in V5 for each of 3 sets. I found them all to sound different. All were matched for PI use which is crucial. Definitely check out www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/, and anything Myles Rose says on this forum. That is his website, and he is the tube guru!

Hey hdahs143, can you describe how the different phase inverters effected your amp? I'm about to retube my Shiva. Thanks!
