How are the clean tones from the RXES? Stang or Ac-30 ish?
How well does the amp react to the pedals in from of it? Overdriving the pre amp and then Ef-86?

When I got my RXES the first thing I did was record a comparison of the RXES to the Stingray. Both amps were hooked to Alnico Golds in a common 2x12 cab, so it's a pretty fair way to asses their similarities, at least in terms of the clean performance. They are surprisingly similar! Check the first clip here: www.gear.strayca.com/rxes.htm

Yeah, it's a very good clean amp up until halfway, where it starts to overdrive in a most pleasing way!

That sounds pretty good to me. two birds one stone. Thanks Dave Exactly! It's perfect with my S-500 too, I can drive it more than other pups and still get it to clean up. I would think it would kill with an ASAT. ;D Makes me want an ASAT now...

Yeah, G&L's are like Z amps. It only takes one to get you started.

Here is the question I have for everyone.. When I hear you guys saying "It's clean to about halfway then it really starts to overdrive..." I have a RXES, Stangray and Maz 18 NR. I've never been able to get the amp anywhere near halfway. I did a pretty big outdoor show this summer, regularly play some decent sized clubs and our drummer is a heavy hitter and does not mute his drums in any way. Where are you guys playing?

You have to use an attenuator like the Airbrake to get there. Believe me, with an Airbrake, you discover the RXES is another whole animal!

We have a small club that has more faces than I have ever seen. It's basicly a one hit type of place because it will be just our croud and no money. So, it will be one of those places we bring our biggest amps and let it rip.
Funny because when I was younger playing punk/metal in the Tampa Bay area you had to have a big amp or you were not getting it done.
Is the RXES big like a big Marshall?

DAVE RXES into a Z-Best will hold it's own with any Marshall half stack I've ever played.

A couple of things about the RXES. I have a 2x12 combo with Greenbacks and when I turn it up almost full and back the treble off alot(no boost either) I can get huge range of clean to dirty using my guitars' volume knob and the volume is not a problem. Also, a friend of mine had one of the first Stingray's with a separate 2x12 cab and Celestion Blues. We thought the clean tones were almost identical. I think the RXES is an extremely versatile amp. If I really have to bring the volume down I can. In that case I use my pedals.....Great results too...just not as much fun. I havn't come to terms with the Airbreak. I lent that to friend who didn't like it either.....till we adjusted it. Now he says he loves it with his Vibrolux. Might be time to reclaim it but everyone is happy at the moment.....

Its just the way I like it I guess...I EQ it to the back pickups and go from there. I play Tele's and Strats (tone control wired).
