Well I have been using the Galaxie quite a bit lately and I have to say I am growing quite fond. Initially it seemed like Ch 2 was too aggressive/loud to my ears. But after spending time working the tone controls (per Tony's detailed review) and letting my ears adjust - I have to say I very pleased with this amp.
Ch 1 gives me all sort of Fendery clean 6L6 tone with just a bit of breakup if I use a boost pedal or turn up the V1 to 1:30 or later (with a strat) and Ch 2 though it seemed aggressive at first - I am appreciating it now. With a 2x10 cabinet you do need an Airbrake with this amp - I played a large room the other night w/out my Airbrake and had to turn it down (it was a benefit gig so loud blues wasn't quite the focus).
I also use this amp when I host the blues jam every week so I get a chance to listen to other players play through the Galaxie with a variety of git-fiddles - I must say it is a great amp and is now probably my favorite amp in my stable which includes: a Z28, Maz Jr, Rte 66, and Z28 - all great amps.
Anyhow - spend some time with her - let your ears adjust or mature to the sound (took mine like 6 to 8 months) and then get that ear-to-ear goofy grin goin' and let it rip.

I found myself in th same boat so to speak.
After using el84 amps for the last couple of years my ears became accustomed to that particular sound. At first I wasn't too sure about the Galaxie but after getting a couple of different cabs for it and a minor tube swap it sits perfectly where I want it to be. If you are playing simple blues and old school rock and dirty country this amp really doesn't need any pedals.

Please stop, I'm waiting for my dealer's call saying my Route's ready: that means another GAL trial, downstairs in the shop. This time I will take 2 hours and try every possible setting both with LP and Strat and even if I know this amp doesn't need anythig as George said, I'll probably take with me my pedalboard to give it a chance with wha, ODs, modulation and delay, even with the OCD. My GAS is raising. My girlfriend Federica thanks you for my extra-money dream...! ;D

I'm going to look at one on Sunday after church, there is a store about an hour from my house that has a Galaxie and Route 66 in stock. My friend Adam wants to hear the Route 66 and now that I have been reading up on the Galaxie I can't wait to play with it! Todd

I am afraid that you both will end up bringing Z amps home after the test play.
