Should vacuum tubes be disposed of in a similar manner to other electronics? Is there any nasty stuff in them besides glass and metal?

I have no idea what the answer to this question is, but I applaud you for trying to find out. If there was still karma, I'd give you some

Good Q. But I'm 110% sure there are more toxins in making them than disposing of them. This is why the EPA won't allow for US manufacture of tubes. I would think they should be any worse than a light bulb.

Maybe I'll shoot an email to GT to see what they say.

Okay, for what it's worth I emailed Groove Tubes (now part of Fender) and this is the response I received: No concerns, just through them in the trash or your recycle bin. Almost like asking Philip Morris if cigarettes cause cancer.

Hi, guys.
That's a good question mate. I wouldn't no about chemicals and other sides of the production regarding that either. Living in Norway though, one can't anymore throw stuff right in the bin. Light balls are recycled as everything else in a household, so shouldn't tubes be in the same ballpark and wouldn't it be both a gain for the environment and production if one were able to re-use parts.

Don't break them open and inhale the vapors, they smell funny.
