Hi, I have a Maz Jr with Reverb. I replaced the rectifier tube with what is supposed to be a NOS Mullard GZ34 with brown base. The tube has no markings, but was but from ebay and the seller has exellent ratings and assures me this is a GZ34. After changing the tube, the amp got quite a bit louder...the old tube looked to be original and is marked GZ34. Is this normal? I have read a lot of threads here in the forum and see that different rectifiers have different characteristics...(breaking up earlier or more headroom) but I am a little concerned as to why it got so much louder...could the old tube have been going bad or weak? I just want to make sure. Thanks, Randy

From what i know and have heard, Rectifiers dont get weak, they just fail completely.... poof...
NOS tubes tend to have better build quality and tolerances than new ones so that would explain the volume jump. and it is possible for it to only say it is a GZ34, KCA NOS tubes has a large stock of unlabeled GZ34s

Your NOS rectifer meets or exceeds specs and all current production rectifers barely meet specs at all and most are far below spec. You will also find in the next 10 or so years that your NOS rectifier will still work and over that same period of time you may have had a half a dozen production rectifiers fail
