Hey all!
After going around and around over an Rx Jr and a Z28, I pulled the trigger on Ruger9's Red Rx Jr Head. ;D Due to snail mail and my not having a Pay-pal account, it probably won't be shipped until he gets back from vacation. No big deal, anticipation is half the fun! And I still have my not-even-fully-broken-in Red MAZ 18 Jr NR Head that requires lovin'.
I'll tell ya what though,... I'm sportin' some serious "Z-wood!" ;D

Yeah baby! The RX amps are a whole different thing from the Maz, and very cool indeed!

Thanks guys! I'm pumped! I can't wait to get my hands on that thing and hear what she sounds like! When my band finally gets their sh*t together, I was planning on running it together w/ the MAZ 18 Jr NR similar to the way benttop, carrjimi, Firestared69, and bilbal described in the Rx page on stereo amp rigs. W/ the lower wattage I'm thinking I can get some nice power tube grind w/out an Airbrake. And if not, I'll need to get a couple of those too! Just out of curiosity, is anyone running a true stereo rig w/ both amps running at the same time rather than an A/B set-up? I'm thinking that setting both up to get clean/dirty from the G-tar's volume knob, and having both on at the same time, would give a great full harmonic spread.

Ruger9 got back from vacation and deposited the check. Just waiting on it to clear and we'll have liftoff. I can't wait. It seems like it's been a month even though I know it has been less than two weeks. For those that have both, is the MAZ Jr NR appreciably louder (all other factors being the same)?

To my ears they are about the same if you use an efficient speaker with the RxJr... with the Maz Jr. having a more clean headroom. The RxJr is still purty versatile even though there are fewer controls. Two different amps though. You'll be a pickin' and a grinnin' really soon!

My Maz 38 has been given me dirty looks the last 3 weeks since I picked up My Rx Jr - the neglect has been harsh. I've had the Maz for almost 4 years and she's great, but Rex is something different. Even my pedal board said "What hit me?" I really need to give the 38 some quality time this weekend.

Sometimes it's tough, but you gotta spread the love! A little to MAZ Jr,... a little to RxJr,... a little to the wife,... a little more to MAZ Jr and RxJr,... a little less to the wife,...
Ya gotta have your priorities in order! ;D

WOW! WOW! WOW!!! ;D I got the opportunity to really open 'er up tonight. Did I mention, WOW!? We had a rehearsal tonight, and I took only the RxJr and two pedals: Boss tuner, and the BB+. I never stepped on the BB+! There was no need for it. I didn't mess too much w/ the amp. I ran it through both speakers of the Marshall 1936 (w/ stock G75's). I had the OD on. Settings were: Bass: 9:00 Middle: Dimed Treble: Dimed Volume: Dimed Master: Noon-ish I don't know why I had them set that way. The only thing I adjusted was the master to suit the volume of the band. My kids may have been playing w/ the settings, but I had no reason to move them from where they were. I was using my American Series Strat (stock). The sounds were amazing,... Full, percussive, round, but crisp w/ what sounded like a chorus shimmer? W/ the guitar volume rolled back I had pristine cleans. When I rolled up some volume I got nice edgy breakup to full on creamy distortion/OD. Even for stepping out for solo work, all I needed was a tweak of the volume knob on the guitar. We do classic to alternative rock w/ some Johnny Cash thrown in for good measure. We play stuff by Audioslave, STP, The Clash, Rancid, Social Distortion, U2, Pink Floyd, John Melloncamp, Tom Petty, Led Zep, Marshall Tucker Band, David Bowie, and original stuff we've been working on. The only effects I wish I had brought was a tremolo, delay, and pitch shifter. Don't get me wrong, I had everything I needed w/ just the tuner. This thing rocked. It can be gritty and dark and nasty or it can be beautiful w/ pristine cleans w/ a slight roll on the volume knob. Unbelievable,... I think I like her better then the MAZ Jr NR. I need to mess more w/ them combined into the same rig in stereo. First impressions w/ both together showed them to be complementary in sound. I would have no concerns running the RxJr by itself in a live setting. It has the Sound, Tone, and Balls to do what I need. And this was in a bit of a rush type setting as the singer needed to leave to go work a midnight shift. I didn't want to take extra time to tweak knobs to take away from our practice. W/ the tones I was getting, there really wasn't any need to. I would have liked to do some twisting for effect, but it really sounded great. This little beast was loud. Volume maxed, Master at noon-ish. I had no problem getting controlled feedback from opening up the guitar all the way. It sang in a wonderfully controlled sustain. All I can say again is WOW! ;D I cant wait to get some good speakers in this cab or another cab to go w/ it. ruger9, thanks again for selling me this amp. It is a phenomenal piece of equipment.

The cab has the stock G12T-75's. Traditional (recent tradition, that is,...) Marshall stock. I'm going to up-grade at some point in the near future. I'm figuring dissimilar something's. I haven't ruled out an additional new 2X12 cab (or maybe a 4X10). I've heard so much good stuff about the Blue & Gold pairings w/ this amp that I may go that route. Although, w/ the cost of the alnico's, they may not be in the "near" future. I have always liked the Greenback, and they're a little cheaper. I'm not familiar w/ Weber or Eminence speakers. I've heard good things about them, but I have no experience w/ how they sound.

Now since I'm new here I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but it seemed like as good of a place as any. I'm too excited anyway!!! I'm proud to say that early this month I ordered my first dr.z amp and cab and I'm also proud to say that it's the RX Jr. (Red with a Black front panel with a matching 2x12 open back cabinet loaded with an alnico blue and a G12H (hoping to bring out the vox and marshall-like tones i've read about on this forum) and salt n' pepper grill cloth). I absolutely can't wait to get it this october (just in time for my birthday. Happy birthday to me, from me)!!!
With that said, I just wanted to thank you all for your help, even though none of you knew you were helping me. This forum has been extremely helpful in choosing which amp was going to best fit my playing style.
thank you everyone, m@

After lurking here for a year, I'm also the proud owner of a new Rx Jr. Somehow, Eric at Willcutt got it to me less than 24 hour after I ordered it.
Also I can say so far is WOW. I never knew what I was missing.

It's awesome isn't it? Don't hesitate to turn those eq knobs, I was suprised at how much bass this amp has and run it around 9:00 to 10:00 most of the time. What speaker are you using?

It has an amazing amount of bass. I haven't turned the bass past 9:00 yet. There is much to explore. I'm using a DrZ 2x10 cab.

Mrfrostee,
Congrats on the Jr! It's definately a kick-a$$ little amp. There is a lot to explore in the tone department w/ this amp. It can be set up for many different sonds. Enjoy!
