Please help me to understand the following: I'm not so sure about a 5Y3... I was told to try a 5V4 but here is what the Doc stated about a 5Y3 in a 4xEL84 situation... my take on this is that when you load it, the 5Y3 won't put out enough to the requirements and it will heat up. Unless I am reading it wrong. (The following is copied from the TUBES area top post on Rectifiers): drzamplifiers.proboards41.com/ind....lay&thread=6263"OK 5Y3's they supply the least amount of Voltage and Currant. A 5AR4 SHOULD supply 250 mA a 5Y3 supplies 125mA. The draw of 4 EL-84's is typically 120 mA at idle so NO room is left for any other tubes in the amp. In a 2 EL-84 or two 6V6 amp a 5Y3 is fine just be careful ,too much sag and too much heat. A 5Y3 tube heats up a lot as it's internal voltage drop and dissipates that drop as HEAT." Does this mean I will damage the amp? I treasure my Stang Ray above all else...except my dog. I don't want to harm it. I'm not very technically intelligent, so please, a simple yes or no will suffice.

DO NOT run a 5Y3 in a 4xEL84 amp. In a ray, if you want to lower output/sweet spot try a 5V4, or better yet, the little known 5R4 Both work great for this.

Yep, agreed, doesn't supply enough current, not an appropriate rectifier for a 4 EL84 amp.

Much thanks! You are a scholar and a gentleman, both. And there are damn few of us left.

So only 5AR4, 5R4, or 5V4 in a four EL-84 amp?
