Hey all,
Just got a used z 2x12 cab looking for some speaker suggestions.
I have a gold 1x12, and a z convertible 2x10 (both sound good, although the gold is a little spikey sounding).
Any thoughts. I do mostly new country and southern rock.

John, The Vintage 30 / G12H is always a good combination. I have 2 Golds in my Z best. It makes it really loud.
Open or closed back?

The V30/G12H is a very clear and full sound. I hear a lot of good things about greenbacks and golds with the RXES as well.

Hey Bill,
How things man?
It's an open back. I was going to try the gold with a vintage 30.
What head do you use the Golds with?

Cool, i'm heading down to to change speakers as we speak...
I wonder if we will ever find the perfect tone. There are so many Z choices.

My new discovery specfically for new country and southern rock is the TT bomb setup in an open back. It did not work on my other amps, but for RXES and doing some sweet Skynyrd, AB, Hatchet and new country it is my go to cab.

Do you run it on its own or with another speaker?

I run the TT alnico and the TT ceramic together in a 2x12 The perfect combination of ceramic punch and alnico ring. For almost all the stuff we play there is very little breakup on the lead, just some hair on the notes. These have a natural compression to them, and really sing. I will warn you though, it takes some time to get these broke in. The cleans were great out of the box, the break up was bad at first. Very stiff.

I do mostly new country and southern rock. You should try the Gold in the larger cab, as it will affect the way it sounds. Pair that up with a G12H and you'll have an unbeatable combination.

Funny you should suggest that Benttop, That was the last combination I tried (G12H x Gold)before I left the rehearsal space last night.
It seems to be the winner. Nice bottom and the Gold really shimmers. I think this is it! ;D
I'm still curious to hear the TT....
I'll have to wait until next week to hear what it sounds like at a gig

My wife will kill me if I buy any more amps or cabinets. Even though they are all black tolex, she can tell that they are multiplying! I'd love to hear a zbest though...

i'm using a v-30 and g12h and it sounds great. i played it through a greenback g12h combo once and that pair may be a little sweeter. couldn't loose either way IMO

I've been thinking about putting a Gold in the top slot of my Z-Best. THAT ought to sound pretty nice...
