I am trying to minimize the noise I am getting with my Tele. Do you think switching my guitar cable will make that much difference. I have always felt that those "High End" cables were a bit of a sham but if its gonna make a difference I'll spring for one.
Heard good things about George L's. Any other recommendations?

Well the sad truth is that although a good cable can help, the amount of help is way down in the noise (pun intended). Your single-coil pickups are a way bigger noise collector compared to even the crappiest guitar cord.
Solutions? You could switch to noiseless pickups, but they sound a little different. You can try to shield as much of the guitar cavity as possible, but this won't solve all of it. You can have your two pickups wired so that when they are both on you are in humbucking configuration, but then it's only quiet when you use that one tone.
We all deal with this. Some are more sensitive to it than others. If you're one of those, the noiseless pickups might be worth investigating. I hear the Kinmans are really great.
Oh, almost forgot to comment on the cables - the expensive cables do make a difference in tone, but you have to be the judge as to whether the amount of change is worth the added cost. Only your ears can tell you that. Go try all of the ones you can get your hands on and pick a good one. That way that part of the noise question is out of consideration.

There was a writeup in one of the guitar mags recently ....sorry don't remember which one anyway they went over all the major cable manufacturers in different price ranges and rated them all. For cables under $50 George L's were at the top. Maybe you can still find it online. George L's is all I use so maybe I'm a little biased but it seemed to do any better with a cable I was lookin to spend upwards of over $100 and that was a "studio" quality. While there was a difference it wasn't enough for me to spend the extra cash.

you could always just turn your body until the polarity of the pickups lines up to the magnetic poles of the earth.
