I think the title says it all. My red head will be delivered on Weds and the 2-10 cab is going to take about 3 weeks. I could have had a cab sooner but it wouldn't be the same color. Call me picky, but I like my equipment to match. The Doc got the order from my dealer today so now the waiting begins. Unfortunately, I don't have a cab at all now so the Mini Z is not going to be making much noise this month.

I have no patience at all. The head came yesterday and I really want to test it out. I thought I would try it through a speaker from one of my other amps but they all have 16 ohm speakers. The Mini is looking for 4 or 8 ohms. I keep reminding myself that it will only be a few more weeks.
On a different note, the Mini Z head is actually bigger than I was expecting. Not a problem but just an observation.

Mini 8 ohm out to 16 ohm speaker should be safe.
Plugged my 4x10 into the mini combo yesterday ;D. Sounds purdy darn good with neck pickup on tele. Jazzy with a little crunch.

Good News. The cab came in early. 9 days instead of 3 weeks. I will have it tomorrow and my family will be out of town for the weekend. Plenty of time to play around with it. I'm pumped.

Just to complete this, here's a picture of the head & cab taken minutes after the UPS man stopped.

Ok. You're going to need a day off of work. Don't you feel a cold coming on?

I didn't even need a sick day. My family was out of town for the weekend so I got a good opportunity to play the Mini at volume. Here's my take on it. The clean sound is great, even it it doesn't get very loud. The overdrive comes on quick. Instant AC/DC with my McCarty Soapbar. It's a little too buzzy for me dimed but sounds pretty cool if I don't go past about 1 O'clock on the volume knob. After that point, it doesn't get much louder, just more saturated. That seems to be the sweet spot where I can turn down the volume on my guitar and still clean things up a bit.
I usually use pedals into a clean amp so I haven't really gotten them dialed in with the Mini yet. I may just hook up a clean boost and leave it at that.
I'm thinking that a different preamp tube with lower gain may be the ticket so I can get a little more clean headroom. Obviously, it's not designed for clean but I'd like more. I probably should have bought a Ghia instead but what can you do?

I probably should have bought a Ghia instead but what can you do? Funny that I put that last sentence in the post. I'm working a deal on a matching Ghia right now. I put the Mini up for sale but won't mind if there's not much interest. It's a fun amp.
