I bought a new amp in Feb that I thought I would love. But at this point I haven't gotten a chance to play it for more than 1 hour here in the house. It's spent the majority of it;s life in the repair shop. I started thinking too much about this past Friday, and got very frustrated when I called the shop just to hear "We're waiting on a part from Boogie...call back next week".
So I spent a few minutes wishing I hadn't just recently plunked down $2.5k for an amp (& cabinet) I haven't even played an hour yet. After all.... I had recently came across some darn nice sound clips of other amps - and they made me realize I had been buying that brand out of familiarity rather than love of the amp.
I made a call to Eric at Willcutt's and explained to him what I was looking for sound wise, and stressed that reliability (along with a well-backed warranty if needed) are a must. He recommended Dr Z amps right off the batt. So after work I hopped in the car and headed to Willcutt's to try out a few Z's and immediately fell in love with the RXES and ended up getting a 1x12 Celestion Gold combo. The only bad thing about the amp is I now play way too much guitar here at home and my fingers hurt like hell.
As an added bonus these forums are great for tips, help, etc about Dr Z amps. Always a big plus to have an active community.
The only thing I need to get now is a good slip cover or a decent roadcase. Anyone have any advise on covers/cases to get - or which ones to avoid? I checked out Studio Slips which is mentioned on the Dr Z site and so far their cover is the front runner for me. Are these covers sufficient protection for an amp that will get moved around a lot, or should I go with a good roadcase?
