I have a Crown power amp that I was given. It's a Crown PS200. The problem is that the power only comes on and won't shut off so I am planning to just plug it into a power conditioner and use it for the main power on/off. I know that a tube amplifier needs to have a load on it (speakers connected) to avoid frying it. I am not certain what gets damaged but I know it's not good and it should not be done. Does this same logic apply to solid state amps like the Crown? IOW can the Crown be powered up without it first being connected to a speaker / speaker cabinet? I hope my description isn't too confusing, I don't know how else to ask my question - sorry Thank you, Bill

*Usually* the rule is: solid state power sections consisting of MOSFETS or other transistors are fine when run with no load (e.g. speakers) but will die very quickly when shorted.
Tube power circuits are the ones you don't want to run into an open circuit (i.e. no load).
