i own a zbest cab with celestion alnico blues in it and im preparing to buy my first dr. z head. i love the sound of the rx es and have a chance to get a really good deal on one but that chance will end tomorrow evening. the only thing i am worried about is using a 45 watt head with two 15 watt speakers. if i get an airbrake would that solve the problem? i also am considering getting an rx js. the only thing i dont like about the rx js is that it is only 15 watts and i have noticed that celestion blues dont tend to really shine unless their pushed to full by a 30 watt head (from my experience). anybody got some advice for me?

If you want to use the RXES with that cab, you would have to swap out one of the speakers. A Celestion Gold would get you pretty much the same tone as you have now. If you have the two 15 watt speakers and an 45 watt amp, you'll blow the speakers or your amp. The RXJS, on the other hand, would work with the cab no problem.

Speaker cab power rating is twice the lowest wattage speaker. Thus, with even one Alnico Blue, the cab is limited to 30 watts.
You can probably safely operate the cab with the Aibrake on at least two clicks, but it still might be possible to blow them under certain circumstances. It wouldn't be the recommended application.

I run my RXES trough one blue and one G12H. Sounds sweet! Haven't had any problems so far but I always have my Airbrake attached.

I've been using Blues in a 212 openback Z cab with my Script ES for almost a year and a half now with now problems. This amp and cab have seen a lot of work between practice and gigs.
I use an Airbrake - 1 or 2 clicks - and the amp volume around 11 o'clock. All is good. I really like how the Blues have settled, great tone.
With tone and oneness, Mike
