I'm thinking of adding another Z amp to my gigging setup. I absolutely LOVE the sound of my Stang Ray. What I'm looking for is a "dirty" amp. I'm going to use a pan pedal to blend the two. I need something that has some "crunch" at low volume levels.

Without a doubt you need a Ghia.

RXJr is great for crunch at subdued volume levels. You could use about any other Z amp with an Airbrake to get there too.

older = wiser... I've used the RXES, the SRZ-65, and the Mazerati GT as my second head to the Stingray's primary role. They all worked out pretty great actually, but if I had to pick just one, I'm not sure I could do it.

GT would be a great addition to pair with Ray.

I want to hear your opinion. Turns out, after much contemplation along these same lines, I'm scoring a 6545 to put alongside my StangRay. I figure I should be able to cover any tone bases I need with those 3 (count 'em) amps plus pedals.

If I'm playing my Strat, I think I like the RXES, but if I'm playing my Les Paul, I can't make up my mind between the SRZ and the GT. It's making me crazy, actually.

I'm curious as to how the different guitars will sound with the 6545. I know hw the Rics sound with the Stang - glorious!. Same with the Tele doing certain types of music. Looks like I'm in for a long period of experimentation!

When I had my 6545, it was really before I had caught a clue about speaker selection. If I had pulled my head out in time, I'd probably still have it here. But if one was headed my way, I'd sure consider an Alnico Gold. I thought the KT-45 side was a little dark, but now I realize that was my speakers, not the amp. So little time, so many variables to consider....
