I love my Stang Ray but for the small restaurant/bars I'm playing in it's a little too much, so I've been using my 2xEL84 Zs. But this Thursday, I get to take her out to an outdoor gig at a community college. I've been wanting to heat this amp up a little bit and I'm finally going to be able to do it. The 2x12 cab with the blues hasn't seen enough action either... I can't wait!!

My Ray is my #1 (and all time favorite) gig amp!! Only problem, I can't run it without an attenuator except at outdoor shows...... Even in large venues, I run an atteunator. I like the tone much better without an attenuator, but to get to that sweet spot you really need to crank it and my band mates already hate my "tube amps" becasue of the volume they pump out.
Let us know how much fun you have doing it!

I'm finding my Ray works just fine at small venues. I like the tone it produces at lower volumes. For crunchier stuff & more sustain, I'll just invoke a pedal or two. I used it a month ago in a tiny room at a condo complex, where someone was having a birthday party, and wanted a band. We were doing our typical '70's & '80's music and the Ray performed just fine. As a matter of fact I found that I had to turn it up a couple of times to keep up with the band. It was never too loud. Just great tone. I enjoy gigging with the Ray. MeZa

I guess I should have said I like my Ray on about 3 1/2 - 4 on the volume.... which is pretty loud.

Man, even on "2" I can barely stand the volume with a single Blue.
