I've had my Ray for about a month and a half now. I've really liked it, but struggled with it in a lot of ways. That all changed today. I have heard everywhere that the Ray and a Tele is a magical combination. I kept plugging in my American Deluxe Tele and thinking that it was fine, but it wasn't keeping in line with the hype that I was reading about here. Well I took some of my birthday money and replaced the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups that were in my Tele with some Lollar 52 Tele pickups. This is the sound that I didn't even know I was hearing in my head! It sounds incredible! I'm not a country player at all, but the rock tone that I'm getting from this setup is perfect. Today I was just using the Tele into a BB, to the Ray. With the BB off, I was getting amazing cleans, then add the BB for one of the best overdrive sounds I've gotten out of that pedal or this amp. I didn't get much time to play with it today, but every second that I did, I was in heaven. I also ordered some Lollar Low-Wind Imperials for my Heritage 535. Hopefully the results will be equally as impressive.

6 months later, my Ray is still my "be all end all" amp. For the past 15 years I had been running multi FX pedals in to my old Fender, adding mids, chime and a touch of grit and a little more compression..... Then I plugged in to a stangray and the sound I had been trying to get all these years with Fenders, Peaveys, Boogies, modeling amps, ect... was right there in the Ray.
I just did a recording project, had my Ray, my Rati an old Twin in the studio, a '68 Deluxe in the studio and a 70s Bassman..... I played each amp and by the end of the recording, the Stangray is the only amp on the recording..... Says a lot for the amp!!

Lollars do make a difference! I have them in every guitar I own, except my R8 LP. I'd like to try them in it too, but I'm afraid I'll decrease it's value if I start modifying it. I've got a low wind Imperial in the neck of one of my tele's and it sounds very sweet.
You've gotta love the Ray too! I can't see ever parting w/mine.

I've got "a few" Z amps, and I've said this before: if my house was burning down, my Stingray is the one that I'd try to run in to save. The amp is that amazing. Oh yeah, I'd get my family out, too.

Don, Little Gio's still too small to be able to pitch in. But, you can always have your wife go back in with you and grab the GT too.

Trust me...I'm a picky SOB when it comes to amps/guitars. The 'Ray and my Kinman loaded Am Deluxe Tele is a match made in heaven! ;D Glad you made a positive discovery!

Yeah, I'm right there with you Bill. Every time I play out I have one more thing I've bought to test ('cause I'm a picky SOB too). But when I brought the Grosh Tele and the Stingray, the bass player went nuts. If he sees me unloading anything but those two things, he starts booing me! Well I can hardly blame him - that Grosh Tele and the Stingray make sounds that don't come out of any of my other gear. The 'ray RULES!

I have a Kinman loaded Tele (The broadcaster set and the Avn-59 in the middle.) and can't wait to hear them through my stangray when it comes.
