I have a Maz 18 NR head, and a cab. For the most part I really don't miss having reverb, but I was wandering what you NR users are using if you decide to use a little reverb here and there. I have tried setting my boss DD3 for a reverb-like delay, but am not real happy with it, and it seems to effect the tone when it is in the effects loop. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Used a Boss RV-5 for several years and was quite satisfied with it. Just recently got a good deal on a Fender '63 reverb tank and it is VERY nice, just not very convienient to haul around.

I've thought about the RV-5, I haven't tried one out yet. I've also been told that the Holy Grail is a good reverb unit. Anyone have any experience with one of those?

I've also tried quite a few and I think that the best of them (so far) is T-Rex Room-Mate, it's not the cheapest one but I think it's well worth the money. Very neutral sounding and several different reverb modes.
The second best is Fender 63' Reverb, it is not as neutral, it somehow "softens" the mids and "loosens" the sound, also the reverb is not as "deep" as T-Rex, but works great for West-coast and other old-school blues stuff!!
I use the Fender for vintage blues stuff and T-Rex for the rest (bluesrock, hard rock). I've also owned Holy Grail which I think is probably the best bang for the buck, I just got tired of the slightly grainy, "processed" sound, in my opinion it also cuts the lows and emphasizes the high-mids making it sound a bit unnatural...
But THE best reverb I've ever used is the 6-spring Hammond reverb in my Rivera Jake's Studio combo, shame that I can't use it with my MazJr... However, I've never tried a Dr.Z with a reverb...

Based on a recommendation from this forum I bought an EBS Dynaverb. Made in Sweden it's a little spendy. Musicians friend is probably your best price. It's built like a tank and iit has 2 switches that allow you to change between 3 versions of hall, plate and room which you can then tweak with the reverb and tone knobs. Thought about trying a Holy Grail but there were enough folks here who said they had noise problems that I went with the EBS. I'm totally satisfied and it really sounds good with the NR.

I tried a Holy Grail with my NR and wasn't really all that impressed. I ran it thru the effects loop, otherwise was too noisy into the front of the amp. It did seem a little sterile to me. I've found that I don't miss reverb at all with the NR...

After playing my NR more I have found that I really don't miss it either. I have tried some reverbs and delays and by the time i get them dialed in to where they are subtle, and tasteful, I turn them off and find that they don't make that much difference or that they just hurt the overall tone. The NR tone develops very well on its own. I really don't miss the reverb and I really don't feel much need for chorus any more either. The NR with the 212 open cab really creates a very lively tone.

I use a Van Amps Solemate through the front end and not the loop with my StingRay and it sounds fantastic; analogue and true bypass. The T-Rex is probably an excellent choice as well.

Another vote for the Fender stand alone unit, but I suggest changing the 6V6 tube. The original circuit and units were made for 6K6 tubes which are no longer made. So Fender ships them with 6V6 which is the only acceptable modern match. NOS 6K6's are readily available and not expensive, but make a lot of difference in the tone. Less edgy and very sweet...
