I'm using a Delta 88 head into the Z best......
I use the rc boost on clean boost, sometimes with a bit of gain as my first gain stage... I am presently using the divided by 13 joyride as my lead gain....
I borrowed a friend's Klon Centaur and it was amazing, overpriced, but still made the amp growl... very organic sounding though..
I've never heard a zen drive, but evberybody says it's the greatest.. is it more like a klon in it's transparency or more like a tubescreamer that colors your sound....
any other opinions are welcome...

Night and day between the two. As for your comparison...more like a Tubescreamer. Lot's of compression with the ZD.

You ever tried a carr amp? It looks as if it's comparable to a maz jr or sr..

The Rambler and the Slant 6 are very good and Fendery. I played the first version of the Hammerhead. It nowhere near what I call good tone. Sounded like a scratchy chain saw. Tom Anderson likes it though and he certainly has good ears, make up your own mind. I think over $2k for the Mercury is silly. A little amp that distorts a lot, big deal. I haven't heard a Vincent or his older big amps.

The zendrive is pretty compressed. Agree with Lefty, a bit like a good tubescreamer but with flatter mids, more low end and a bit more authentic sounding.
I have a mosferatu, the mosfet, higher gain pedal that hermida makes. I had it modified to have a lower gain/higher gain switch, that makes it a lot more versatile.
The Carrs are really nice. I like the Hammerhead and the slant 6V. Wasn't so hot on the mercury, though.

The Carr's are nice, I liked the Slant 6 but I think Steve (Carr) has priced himself out of the "everyman's" reach. The Slant 6 clean is very BF Fender, and the gain is like a Fender with a lot of gain...good but not Marshall. For what you pay for a Carr you can get 2 Z's.
