Hi everyone,
This is my second post here (i'm a new member as of today).
I bought a Maz Jr N/R head last year. And have yet to play it because I haven't bought a cab. I'm suffering from analysis paralysis. I'm reading all the opinions and getting overwhelmed.
So anyway, my actual question: is is possible to hook up the head to two 1x12" speaker cabs?
What I picture is you could have 3 or 4 cabs (1x12) of different speakers and then mix and match for different tones?
Uh...hopefully this post isn't so lame that is goes unanswered.
p.s. I've really enjoyed reading all the posts, I've learned a lot already. Plus this board inspired me to buy the Maz jr.

Very common to mix a Celestion Blue and a Green back in a 2 x 12 cab, don't know why mixing 1 x 12 's wouldn't work. You'll need a Y cable to run two 8 ohm cabs hooked up to the 4 ohm jack. Use speaker cables for sure. That may seem like a dumb thing to say but I've seen guys make the mistake of using guitar cables to hook up speakers and also seen what it did to the output transformer. Good luck.

cdwinger, where do you live? If you live somewhere closeby (probably not though) I have a cab you could use until you get yours picked out and runnin'. I hate the thought of you having that head (same one I have) and not being able to at least enjoy it to some extent.

Jakeddy, thanks for the reply. I also did more searches on this forum and ended up emailing Procables N Sound. It sounds like it's as simple as you said, just get a Y cable. Cool!.
Deltone, man, that's really a generous offer. Unfortunately I'm down in the San Francisco area.
I'd certainly take you up on the offer if I was nearby though.

I bought a Maz 15 Jr NR yesterday.
I tried it with many cabs and bought a 2x12 Z best!! Hearing is believing and thats what Dr Z suggested!
There just wasnt anything to match it. I made the decision about the cab b4 I made the decision about the amp.
I have various cabs and I have been advised also to y to another cab for a second single 12inch for my bass players monitor on the other side of the stage
Happy Tones

I play through the maz jr head into two Bogner cube cabs by using a simply Y cable. One cab is loaded with a Celestion G12H30 and the other with a Celestion Vintage 30. This sound is simply amazing and by having the two cabs loaded differently, i have a lot of flexibility in how i mix and match heads and speakers.
Somehow when those Bogner cabs are mic'd, the sound system seems to think it is amplifying a big 4x12 cab. i cant explain it, but it sounds phenomenal and is easy to load and unload.

I play my Z's through two 1x12 cabs connected in parallel regularly. One open back with a 50 watt ceramic Silver Bell and one closed back with a 50 watt ceramic Blue Dog. They sound great together or separately.

My Maz Jr Combo has British Greenback and it sounds great. I picked up an avatar 2 x 12 cabinet and threw a Chinese Greenback in there and a Lead-80 with stereo wiring. It was supposed to be my recording cab so that I could throw it in a closet. The Chinese Greenback doesn't have as much umph as the British one, but i'm not sure whether it's the Doc's cabinet or the speaker. But, the amp still sounds mighty fine.
Finally, I picked up a Randall Iso-Cab with a Celestion Vintage that I now use for about 99% of my recordings. It sounds great through this too.
So, forget about paralysis-analysis. Go with a quick gut check and pick something up. You'll learn a lot once you start playing the amp. You can always change it.
It is one fine amp. Treat yourself.

Thanks for the additional responses lately. I will be putting in an order for an avatar cab next week. I just need to get something quickly so I can start playing. Thanks for all the ideas, I plan to try out the 2 separate 1x12's someday. It sounds like a versatile way to go.

Holy smokes man! You can't decide on a cabinet so you don't play a great amp? Get rid of the gearhead garbage in your head...get a Z-best cab, a Marshall cab of virtually any description, an old Fender cab, and Avatar..who cares...Bogners are nice...hell, find out if Sears or Montgomery Ward will sell you even a cheapie. But don't be letting that thing ( Maz) sit around till you find the "perfect match". Good Lord !

I assume you are going to buy an Avatar cause they are inexpensive?
If that's the case, hold off on getting a Z-Best at $750.00 and simply buy a Dr.Z 1x12 or 2x10 Cab in 8 ohms for $450.00 and get rolling. That way, in the future you can add a Z-Best or even another small 2x10 (or 1x12) Cab to run along with your first Cab. A MAZ Junior running through a 2x10 and 1x12 at the same time is very cool....and very portable.
Forget the Avatar and buy a Z....long term..(and short term for that matter) you'll be glad you did. Z's Cabs are GREAT! Mark
