Anyone have any ideas of where I can get a complete retube kit for my Maz Jr? I just ordered some JJ's from eurotubes, and I got to admit.. My amp sounded alot better w/ the tubes that were in there previously. But since I bought it used I just tossed the old ones. I need my tone back and have no idea where to get the right combo of tubes. The JJ's seem kind of harsh.

Your amp, these amps came with Groove Tubes for the power section with a rating of 6. In actuality, the Dr. states that these are repackged JJ tubes. Several people on this board have brought up this tube vendor www.kcanostubes.com

Mike at kcanostubes is a pleasure to deal with. I would go even a bit farther ...... HE IS OUTSTANDING! He is my first "go to" guy when something is needed to either sound as spectacular as it can sound, recording projects with special high quality requirements, or when long life and reliable tubes or rectifers are needed where the bill cannot be filled by current new production. As far as EF86 tubes go .... he is the ONLY source I use. I recently tested the new EH/Sovtek offerings and the JJ offerings in gold pin and non-gold pin. The JJ's were not anywhere close to spec. (I posted the actual test reports somewhere in this forum but do not recall where). The EH/Sovtek have good specs but the jury is still out on the reliability factor. I have seen new production Sovtek and Svetlanas in the past that had specs proper at times but after a dozen heat up and cool down cycles (turning you amp on for a show and off when the show ends for 10-20 shows) the tubes generally became so microphonic that in many amps they were totally unusable. Thankfully the way the Doc implements EF86 use they are not nearly as fussy in his amps but when a show is riding on your amp the insurance of a good tube is pretty darn cheap. The NOS EF86 tubes are also cheap in a sense. I have seen EF86 Mullards from 1962 in a Vox AC-15 still test as new and there were many occurances like this in EF86 based Voxes. So ... bottom line .... Mike at KCA is something of a lifesaver for a bunch of my clients and me too.

+1 for Mike. I've had great success with Mike at KCANOS. Just feed him the amp type and what you want to achieve tone-wise and then, based on your spending threshold, he'll pick the tubes for you. Dude knows the tubes and carries a great variety.

KCA or Doug's Tubes. Both have treated me very well. Doug Preston is also a terrific fellow and I also recommend him to a lot of folks. Doug has a lot of new production tubes but Mike is my guy for NOS stuff.

Bob Pletka at Eurotubes is a great fellow and is a JJ distributor but I tend to use EL84S (which is the JJ tube) in your amp exclusively but I only use a #5 or #6 rating. GT uses a dynamic rating system rather than a static rating system which matches the tubes in a different manner based on when the tube distorts rather than it's static current draw at one plate voltage and one bias voltage. The tube is matched over the entire operating range so if you look at the match on a vacuum tube curve tracer the curves lie on each other across the entire operating range, not just at idle or at a single point in it's operating range.

I agree, although Doug has come thru for me a couple of times on a few NOS tubes and I got them a bit cheaper from him. But he doesn't have the inventory of NOS tubes like KCA.
