For my main overdriven leads, im looking for a pedal that kicks, I borrowed a ocd and seen here where the bb preamp is popular, as funds are limited now with the purchase of the JR, I can only get 1 right now for sometime. I was thinking of getting 2 Ocd pedals and use 1 in each of the modes LP/HP they have, I like 'em both in those modes, never used it live yet and my bedroom volume is anything I care it to be, my wife has never told me to turn down, she plays keyboards with us. The tone in the bedroom will be different than the stage at church, just spent 10k in the last 18 months and sold all of it as I never found my tone, lost quite a bit.

BB is gain on top of your existing tone - doesn't color at all, unless you want to with the tone controls. Can be more OD (lower gain) or Distortion (when gain is cranked). Is compressed a bit and smooth. With the tone controls you can get Marshall-esque tones out of your Z. Great pedal!
OCD colors the tone - adds a bit more beef in the low end and a bright top end. It is great for low drive and can get a bit unruley tonally in higher gain settings. The higher gain is scooped (more emphasis in the bass and highs) and kinda fizzy on the top end. However, it's super for a low gain just-clipping amp tone - lower gain like around 8:00 in either mode. Really sounds great for new-country grit or just w/a touch more gain can nail Skynard (3 Steps, etc). If you like Fusion, the OCD does hit that nicely in high gain settings - scooped and with the tone control, you can dial out a good portion of the top end.
Completely different animals those 2. I use both and they are definately used for different material.

The BB is best for mid to hi gain applications. I found the OCD obscured the tone of the guitar more. I didn't like it at all and only played one for about 10 minutes when they first came out.

BB wins! I purchased an OCD when the rush was on to get one. Last year I had Don Butler, the tone man, change the pot from old stock to cxcurrent. Sounded better still not my tone. I have a 2001 FDII, totally with all the updates by Mike Fuller, which I like much better. Enter BB and RC. Game over! The Xotic pedals work so well with Dr Z's. Good luck with your tone quest. Rick
