can i get the brad tone from a route 66 ? i wanna use it for country like musnter rag , speggit western swing , nervouse brakdown . i can get one cheap thats y i ask! Any of the Dr. Z EL84 based amps are going to get you much closer to Brad's tone. Ghia, Stingray, Mazerati, Maz Jr&Sr, and ES RX. The 66 is a fantastic amp, but I would not reccomend it for emulating Brad's tone. Zac

Hey Zac,
I've decided I'd like to become Brad Paisley, what do I need to do? ;D
But seriously, thanks for patiently replying to 7 pages of questions on this board. This is a great place.
Now for my real question: what are some ways I can reduce hum from bad power sources? Normally my rig (Tele + Mazerati) is plenty quiet enough, but some clubs have crappy power and I get an unbearable hum. Usually I'll just switch to my other Tele that has Bardens in it, which eliminates the problem, but I'd like to be able to use my #1 guitar that has regular ol' single coil OC Duffs in it. Are there any "magic boxes" out there that I could plug into to clean up the power? I know very little about this stuff.
Thanks!

Well, Sometimes you just have to live with the hum, or use Bardens, or other hum cancelling pickups. Answer me this though: Does the amp make a lot of noise when you have the volume all the way down on your single coil equipped guitar? Zac

It's only noisy in the usual dive club situation where there's a neon Coors Light sign plugged into an outlet that is probably on the same circuit. I noticed there's a gizmo called an Ebtech (by Morley) Hum Eliminator. Do these do anything for this kind of situation?

I noticed there's a gizmo called an Ebtech (by Morley) Hum Eliminator. Do these do anything for this kind of situation? Ignatius, The ebtech humX is for use in situations where lifting the ground on your amp helps(using a 3to2 prong adaptor). The humX safely deals with this issue without putting you at risk of electrocution. The Hum Eliminator is for situations where you are using two amps, or are splitting your signal to an amp and a DI box. You can get some bad hum from this, so the Hum Eliminator has 2 transformers inside to isolate the 2 signals. If your amp is not making noise when your volume is all the way down on your guitar, then it is your guitar. With single coil pickups, you can have it sheilded, but that will not eliminate the problem. It will help though. Sometimes you just have to deal with the hum, or use hum cancelling pickups. You volume controll on your guitar, or a volume pedal make a great noise gate inbetween songs though. If the noise is not horrendous, you can get away with the noise during the songs. I have a Tele, and a Strat with Kinmans for bad situations. I love single coils too though. Zac

Hey Zac, I was wondering if there is a lot of difference between the tone of the stingray vs. the mazeratti? I have not gotten to play a stingray yet but it looks like a maz. with a cut control, but I am sure there is much more to it than that. Thanks Dew

There is a difference in tone between the 2 amps. The Ghia is a little sweeter sounding. I prefer the Ghia to the Mazerati, but sometimes I need the headroom with a larger band. Brad used the Ghia alot on the Opry until early 2003. He has since the Mazerati, ES RX, or Stingray amps. But usually only one of them. Either the Ghia or Mazerati will get you to Paisley land. Zac

The Mazerati is Dr. Z tone stack plus equal parts Marshall and Vox. The Stingray is the good Dr's closest take on a 4 input AC30, without the headaches of a 46 year old amp not designed to opperate in this country. You also don't need a variac to make it sound good. With a vintage AC30, you need a variac to get the voltage right. They like 115, not 120. They sound quite different at the correct voltage. Zac

Hi Zac, heard that Brad has changed his speaker setup. What is he using now? Thanks, Arun He is still using Weber alnico speakers. 50 watt silver and blue with the ES RX, and 15 watt with the Stingray. He has also used some ceramic webers with a Delta 88. Zac

The front end of a Mazerati is a dual triode and the Stingray is a pentode .... big difference. Transformers are different. Plate voltages are very different. They are very different amps.

Hey Zac, I have a 1-12 Maz 18 w/reverb and I was thinking about puttting a new speaker in it. I was thinking about a vox blue or a weber blue or silver bell. I would like to get a little closer to that paisley tone. Maybe I should just look into a different Z altogether. I was just wondering what you might recommend? Thanks, Dew

Also what amo and pedals does Brad Use on the song Me Neither. thanks Recording notes indicate the '68 Tele, '62 Vox, Maz 38, and an aqua puss for "Munster." "Me Neither" was the same setup sans Maz 38. This was off the first album released in 1999. He did not yet own a Z amp. Zac

Thanks Pat I think we do mention the fact that a Les Paul was used with a Zen Drive for the slower blue section. Otherwise it was either Salsa, the 52, or the 68, into the ES RX and the '62 AC 30. The delay was a Boss DD-2. Zac

Hi zac I was browsing brad's forum and I saw someone's photos from the Columbus, GA show on this current tour. One picture stood out as brad was playing a pickguard-free red/black paisley strat style guitar with a maple neck. What model was this? The picture is here. Thanks very much Nick

Hey Zac, just curious, what amp and playing situation does Paisley use the 4 knob keeley compressor on? Thanks again Pat Brad now has it wired to effect all amps. In the past he would use a compressor only on one amp. One song in particular he is using it on is the latest single, "When I Get Where I'm Going." Zac
