For a Jr, 1x12 or 2x10. I have a 212 and think the amp sounds better as either the aforementioned.
The Sr. sounds best as a 212.
Another option is to get a head and a couple cabinets of your choice with different speakers (i.e. Avatar, Weber, etc cabinet and setup one as a 112 and one as a 210). Great flexibility that way. Plus, you can experiment with speaker setups easily in the studio.
RE: speaker selection, you can but it's somewhat limited - believe that info is on the regular Z site.

I'm in the same place play4jc.
Most of my experience is with 1x12. I play in church, don't need tons of volume, and I'm miced.
I'm interested in a 2x10, or would that just be a waste due to micing only one side.

I've always thought a 1x10 would be cool to have for the Jr. when you need to keep the stage volume down. Mine is a 2x10 combo and it is too good for me to consider selling and getting a head version. If I had a head a 1x10 would be one of the cabs I would get for it, but Doc's 2x10 cab would be the first.

I tried playing a gig with only one 10" hooked up in the 2x10 cab. It did work but lacked a lot of fullness. I've tried and tried to get 1x10 to work but it never does with a drummer.

I just went and played a 2x10 and a 1x12". I couldnt really crank for long, which is better for a prs with humbuckers/ and I have a homemade strat with anderson pickups s/s/h, all noise less It will all i can do to buy just the combo, not rich to buy differnt cabs

What style of music do you play? Size of speaker is not the only issue, there are lots of different speakers out there. Are you after a British type speaker with lots of midrange or a more vintage style American sound that you would get from Jensen? Decibel ratings, wattage, alnico or ceramic are all going to affect your particular choice. For British stuff a 1x12 with a celestion greenback will nail those modern blues tones then some more like Black Crowes all the way to AC/DC. A celestion blue could be a good choice as well but a bit pricey if you like REM,Tom Petty,Brian may etc. Although your choice of guitar a PRS might indicate different but please correct me if I am wrong. With a strat and the Maz jr you could even get Webers version of a P12 the 12a125(alnico) and do some early Mark Knopfler Dire Straits stuff or then again go really versatile with a good all round Z cab loaded with a Vintage 30 which will cover lots of bases and have a big chunky low end for your PRS and a sweet sustain for your strat with loads of headroom. I don't know much about 10's as I have never really been into them so someone else will have to chime in here.
Good luck with your choice,it's all fun experimenting and finding "your sound," I'm still doing it 22 years on.........

A Greenback works really well with a JR NR IMO, the G12H is a bit bass heavy in mine. A Blue is cool also but I tend to prefer ceramic mag's with the Jr.

Zs 10s are quite neutral. they mostly reproduce what you put into them. The 2x10 cab is more efficient than most single 12s too.

Did you get a chance to play a Carmen Ghia? Probably get better early break up with that.

Thats a really good point, the Ghia goes well with buckers or singles and takes any good pedal in ffront of it to a different dimension.
