I have been using my Maz 18 jr 1x12 NR for about three months. I have spent a fair amount of time messing with the tone controls. So far it has been great, in fact maybe a little too great....
Do to the size of my basement, I rarely get a chance to turn it up enough to get really cool natural tube distortion sound that I was after when I bought the amp. Any thoughts from the board on how I can get there without simply turning it up (different tubes, face the wall, etc.) and waking the wife and kids?
Thanks,
Tom

+1 And of course it's also worth mentioning that Z's master volume on these amps works very well. Crank the volume and turn the master down. Of course, that's mainly pre-amp tube saturation....So if the true power tube distortion is what you're after, an attenuator is the ticket. Weber mini-MASS or Dr. Z Air Brake.

Thanks guys.
On a side note, can I infer from JChance's post that the Volume control modulates the preamp tube and the Master Volume modulates the remaining tubes?
Cheers,
Tom

For the Z Brake, I am simply loving it.

Cheers, Tom Yes the master controls the power tube output as the Cut controls the output tube 'tone", all other controls are for the pre amp, think of the volume as pre amp gain.

Here's a Nashville setting with some "hair" on it...
V- 3 O'clock, T- 12, M- 9, B-12, CUT- start off....activate as night goes on and you need more high end slice in the mix, Master - 10 O'Clock.
This will have a nice little crunch to it, but nothing over the top. Use Telecaster. Beauty of this setting is that it's good to plug a Strat into as well, as it has a nice blackface scooped chime to it.
