Anyone have experience playing a Maz 18 Jr. through a 1x15 cab? I love the rumble of the lows from D-140. The 1x15 sounds great through a Fender, how about a Maz?

Hey Tommy,
Never tried it but I been thinkin about it too, the Vibroverb smokes with the JBL 15" loaded in it (I've heard the re-issues are a little bit brighter but I never played one). No wonder SRV loved them so much.
Betcha she'd have huge bottom for days, and days, and days! ;D

Technically the D140 was JBLs bass speaker. In reality I think the only difference was in the cone surround. I'm not a JBL expert but that's what I remember. I've got three D130s, two D120s, two E110s and one MI 10". I like JBLs a lot!

Right on Billy. I am acutally looking at a 1x15 with the Weber California w. aliminum dust cover - unless I can come across an original JBL that is pristine. Keep the comments coming I appreciate the fellowship!

If it was me and I wanted that sound I would go with the Weber. I think the paper dust cover would sound better with pedals, just a hunch. Those old JBLs are getting pricey as hell. The last one I bought was $85 but that was about 10 years ago. Now guys are asking $250! I've had several since high school, I graduated in '72. The 12's were hot when I got them and brand new. The D130 from then blew many years ago and I had it reconed with non-JBL parts to save money. It sounded the same and I saved a little money. Also when I was in high school I had a second D130 in a cabinet but I traded it in on a new Fender Vibrosonic combo with a 15" Gauss. Traded it in on a Dual Showman for some reason. I think it had Vega 15"s. I recently played a new Fender Twin Reverb Custom 15 when we got to open for Marcia Ball. That speaker and amp sounded great! To me that speaker sounded more like an Altec than a JBL.

I just got my Weber 1x15 cabinet. Red with salt and pepper. Looks like it came from Dr Z, with the Weber 15F150 50 watt and a beam blocker. WOW!! This will easily hold me over until my new rig gets here! It sings with the Maz 18 jr. with or without reverb and it's amazing with the Carmen Ghia too!

When Z makes the new Evan head I'm going to order one and then get a cab for either my D130 or a 1958 Jensen P15N that's in an old Ampeg M15. I've also got a cool Utah 15 with an Alnico magnet it some kind of weird old amp called an Excelsior. It looks to be made in the 50s. I have never seen another amp like this and I didn't know Utah was in business that far back but that's what it looks like. The speaker is gold like the new Celestions. Nah, the JBL would be best.
