I've been obsessively researching and scouring the net for the best possible ingredients for the ultimate recipe for tone.
I've discovered AnalogMan pedals, I've got a modded "silver" Maxon OD9 (for true bypass) 808 spec, the mini bi-comp and the sun lion (the boost and fuzz in one). I've got a wish list of pedals that I keep in a notepad file on my desktop, I'm slowly marking things off.
Analogman Bi-chorus
Xotic RC Booster
Foxrox ZIM
Pigtronix EP-1 Phaser
Teese RMC1 or Picture Wah with Foxrox Retrofit
I'm using an Eric Johnson Strat with Van Zandt Blues pickups. I take out personal loans to build up credit, I'm about to pay off the one I have this month at which point I'm going to take out a $2000 personal loan for a Tom Anderson Cobra. Not sure whether to go with the hollow body or not. After this I plan on getting a G&L ASAT or a Fender Custom Shop Tele. I'm in the military and I don't have any bills, I basically am just trying to set up the perfect guitar rig with a lot of different tonal capabilities before I get out (in a year). When I'm out of the military I'm going to be a poor college student, therefore, I would like to get everything I want before I'm broke . I use George L cables and Elixir medium strings.
I recently bought a Bogner Shiva (EL34) used for $1700, I've been playing through my friends Marshal cab - sounds great. Anyway, I have been looking for a Z Maz 18 head for a while. The guitar shop near me (in Washington DC) said they wouldn't be able to get one for 3 months and I would have to put half down on it. I'm visiting my family here in Washington State, called the music stores here and found one in Seattle that actually had it. I went up there and played it. Wow! I couldn't keep the smile off my face, was playing a custom strat through it with a modded TS. Beautiful. The Z Best cab sounded pretty good, although I've been leaning towards buying a Port City cab. It's a design that has the back of the cab angled tactfully so that the sound that is pushed towards the back of the cab is forced back to the front. I've read many reviews that say its the best of both worlds (open/closed back).

There is a link, I'd like to know what you all think of the idea. I plan on putting 2 12" tone tubbys, one ceramic and one alnico ("the bomb"). I play mostly Hendrixy, SRV-type, some bluegrass (why I need the tele twang) and I try to play Jazz. I'm also a big fan of Jimmy Page. I am wondering if this combination will sound good, I'm afraid of the alnico creating too much bass in a cabinet like that, then again there will be only 1 in so it might not be that bad. The speakers are rated at 40 watts each, my Bogner head is rated at 80-watts. Will I need an attenuator just to cap my Bogner so that I don't put too much stress on the speakers? I've heard of using a voltmeter guage, convert the volts to watts and draw a line on the meter at the peak wattage so you know when to back off a bit. I read an earlier review that said most amps put out their maximum watt rating at 3.5-6.5, my original plan was to just not go past 8 or so on the bogner (which is VERY loud!), so I assume that won't work.
If anyone has any other ideas for me I would appreciate it. I've done a lot of research to discover what I've found thus far, just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks a bunch =)
