Maz 18 Jr. NR until last night ..... I actually listed it on ebay ..... Since I got it, I never thought it stood out as a keeper and only jammed on it a few times with a P90 SG. Last night I was playing my SG through my Mesa Heartbreaker and broke a string, so I grabbed the Tele. Well, the Tele just wasn't getting it with the Mesa, so I grabbed the Maz since it would probably soon be sold and HOLY CRAP 1! ! ! What a GREAT tone with that Fender ! yeah, I know, I really should have known. I am not really into the Fender guitars all that much, but the Z and the Fender are such a great match. Clear as a bell and such an inspiring grind!! I am thinking about cancelling the auction now .... the other thing is, I was thinking the Mesa had the best tone in the world, but the Z suddenly slapped it around a bit and kicked it over in the corner because the Mesa is so vague in comparison. I do believe I need to be more patient and explore these things more carefully from now on.

I do believe I need to be more patient and explore these things more carefully from now on. Good post! My thoughts and personal observations... I think that's what happens with quite a few players. These amps are a different breed and may take some extra time to get them dialed in to your liking. But once you find your tones, there's no going back. I had no way of trying before buying my Maz 18 Jr NR 210. But, everyone's raving about them, including a good friend of mine. So, I bite and order one. I can't tell you how disappointing the first few hours with the amp were. Fortunately, I was able to realize with the help of several folks, including here that - 1) the tone controls on this amp don't react the way most of us are accustomed to. I had to start thinking "out of the box" and trying settings that just didn't seem the norm. 2) a new tube set, especially for the preamp, made a huge difference. Doc has his personal recommendations, which I was glad to find, and they worked for me just as he said they would. That was a good eight months or so ago and I can't seem to get a bad sound/tone out of this amp using Strats, Tele and Les Pauls! Well, I'm glad you have also found there is something more to these amps. A little hidden secret that just takes a bit of extra time for some of us to find. Btw, I'm no newbie player either, so it's a bit embarrassing that I almost returned this amp without giving it a fair shake. Ray K.

Funny thing, once you find your tones with the Z it's hard to go back. I would occasionally plug into my Deluxe Reverb and Super Reverb, both great sounding amps, and go ewwwww. Back to the Z, ahhhh much better. Since then I've sold the DR, going to keep the SR for reference and the occasional plug in/reminder, and it's not a bad amp, just not a Z.

My #1 is a Tele and I don't think there is a better Tele amp out there. So I'm not surprised by this at all!

.....couldn't be more pleased. Plugged in a lil '59 equipped Tele straight into my 2-10 Maz with all tones & cut 12 o'clock and volumes about 3/4. Tore it up sittin in with a friend's band. Just the right size and output for a club to keep it cranked and not kill everybody. Fantastic sound cranked up and I've just begun to explore the possibilities.
The '59 sounded awsome full humbucker and split.
.....as of now wouldn't touch a thing on it

Don't give up on the P90 SG just yet! You'll get it dialed in eventually. I've got one and I love it with my Maz. I love it with my Ghia more, but that's another story.
