I had every intention of getting a Maz 18jr or Carmen Ghia in a 112 model and then I plugged into 210 Maz 18jr and I bought it on the spot. I was blown away by how clear and responsive the tens are.
Are the ten inch speakers a special design?

"Are the ten inch speakers a special design? "
Copied and pasted from the Dr.Z main site:
"UPDATE: I have developed my own 10 inch speaker, it will be incorporated in the new 2X10 Ghia combo, the Z-28 4X10, the 4X10 open back cab, and the MAZ -38 and Jr. 2X10 reverb combo's. I utilized a process that I learned from my friend Ted Weber at Weber VST: that is incorporate the response of a sample speaker, them tweak the voice coil, mag circuit, and dust cap to achieve a optimum design. On the Z 10 inch speaker, I utilize an English made cone and voice coil, along with a basket and magnet from Eminence, and assemble them in house. I select a different dust cap depending on the amp that I install them in. There has been a lot of time in the development of this speaker, but I 'm very happy with the results, it gives me control of the speakers tone, and no delays for speaker deliveries. Look for a 12 inch design in the near future."

I have a MAZ 18 NR combo with 2x10s, and it is sounds incredible. Nice and full, which I didn't expect from 10s. I thought you needed to get into 12 inch territiry for full sound. I thought the 10s would sound "small", but it is not the case. Big notes, and super clear, even when running the burn unit hot.
Of course, it's got red tolex, which everyone knows improves the tone. <g>
Congrats on a great purchase. You'll find a goldmine of great sound in that amp.

Thanks for posting the web site info. I missed that. It explains what I am hearing. This amp has a clean tone that makes me glad to be alive.
Z rocks

I think he should design a Z 12" speaker. The 10s are great so I'm sure the 12's would be too. I am not a big fan of Celestions because of the cone cry they all have.

I have the 2x10 MAZ also and I am so happy I went that route. I haven't played a 1x12, but I did play a Sr. with a single 12 and to me it was lacking something. When I received my Jr. I was blown away. Awesome! I've been thinking about a Z28 and I would probably go with the 10's again.

I love the 10's as well. Huge sound from those. I hooked up my Mesa 2x12 recto bab with old V30's to my Maz Jr. but something sounded weird to me after the 10's. Z-10's rock!

ditto me.
I've played exclusively 12" and these 10's are monster's. Everyone in the band has marveled at the added sound and the way they cut through and don't make you bleed. I'll never go back! ( Well, maybe a new Z cab with a Z 12 )

I have the 2 x 10 Z cab. The beauty of this cab is it's neutrality. No signature tone like, for instance, a Celestion V 30. It's also very efficient and has a nice thick lower midrange, depending on how you set your amp, that I like but is amazingly hard to get.

I agree! The 10's are killer. My Super Reverb was too loud for a lot of the clubs in town so I figured an 18W 2-10 amp would be perfect...right? HA..the 2-10 Z in real volume was as loud as my Super. I actually like they way the Z cuts thru the mix better. All the boys in the band agree too which is always nice. I put some less efficient jensen p10r reissues in to try but the Z 10" have such a smooother sound. The jensens are back in the box.
